michael.mu Posted September 22, 2013 Share #1 Posted September 22, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm consistently getting a green tint on my M240 photos. I tested White Balance settings: Auto, Sunny, Cloudy, and Grey Card. Even the Grey Card is giving too much green. I hoped manually setting the White Balance would fix it. I do the RAW processing in iPhoto, but I see similar results when i use Lightroom 5 to processes the RAW files. The tint in iPhoto is in the 20-25 range (green). Fixable but a hassle. Are other users seeing a similar issue. Is this issue (White Balance related?) on the firmware update wish list? Mike

michael.mu Posted September 22, 2013 Author Share #5 Posted September 22, 2013 I ran another test comparing Auto WB and Grey Card WB. This time I got a good result with the Grey Card Setting - no green tint. The attached screen capture shows the Auto WB on the left and Grey Card WB on the right. You can see the green tint on the Auto. Settings: ISO 200 f8 1/60 50mm f1.4 v2 (not coded - set manual) Looks like I need to do more testing with Grey Card WB setting to make sure that I'm using it correctly. Mike Welcome, dear visitor! 01af Posted September 23, 2013 Share #6 Posted September 23, 2013 You can see the green tint on the Auto. Sure. The subject is basically just red—so naturally the Auto WB tries to 'correct' this towards a more neutral rendition. The automatic cannot know if it's a red scene under neutral light or a neutral scene under red light. That's why no-one who wants good white balance ever uses Auto WB. Use a fixed colour temperature setting (like 2,600 K, 2,800 K, or 3,000 K) in artificial light and the Daylight pre-set otherwise, then all your Auto WB problems will be gone. Grey-card WB is required for tricky mixed-light situations only. I'm using 'Daylight' all the time, '2,600 K' occasionally, grey-card WB once or twice a year, and never Auto WB.
