Tri-Elmarit Posted September 18, 2013 Share #1 Posted September 18, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Forgive me if this is very dumb question...but this Leica system is still new to me. What Viewfinder framelines does Leica M5 use with Voigtländer Heliar-M 75/1.8 ? So far that I had understood Leica M5 shows with this lens 50mm framelines ? Focusing done by Leica viewfinder ? And maybe Voigtlander 75mm viewfinder for precise framing is needed ? Any experiences ? Are there any other ways to compensate framing ?
Advertisement Posted September 18, 2013 Posted September 18, 2013 Hi Tri-Elmarit, Take a look here Leica M5 Voigtländer Heliar-M 75/1.8 and framelines. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
luigi bertolotti Posted September 18, 2013 Share #2 Posted September 18, 2013 Yes : 50+75 is the couple of frames for today's Leicas, so the M5 will display the 50mm frame only, when a M mount 75mm lens is mounted. You focus through the usual rangefinder patch, but of course the frame is uncorrect : if you buy an external VF (Voigtlander has one) you must switch from M5 VF/RF to the external finder... an operation to which lot of Leica users are accustomed... but is a bit annoying and, if you don't care, it can be at risk of "defocusing" if you are in a critical focus situation (which can be, with a 75mm opened to 1,8 and that can focus under 1 meter) If you plan to use it regularly, it's not difficult to "imagine" the correct frame "inside" the 50mm frame... it has been like this for me with 135mm used with 90mm frame onto M8... you "learn" the distance from the white frame of the 50 and the "virtual" frame of the 75, with the advantage of no moving/no leaving the original VF / no attaching a device on top : matter of taste, attitude, and photographic situations. No alternative ways, in my view... time ago I toyed with the idea of "writing" four small dots of black ink on the glass surface of my M8's VF... to match the four corners of 135mm at infinity....... but at the end gave up this strange idea. It sounds very possible way to use 75mm..first with external VF and later when learned where the imaginery framelines might be..without external VF...This will have a thought on me..when i choose my tele lens...is it going to be this 75mm
rsh Posted September 19, 2013 Share #4 Posted September 19, 2013 Sherry Krauter can change the frame set to to M6 frame set. I have one M5 with the original Frame set and one with the M6 Frame set for this very reason.
