There's nothing wrong with using the M for travel photography, it's just that some of us don't want to hump the weight and bulk around any more.

 

Conception of weight must be going down

 

I define a M9+lens extremely low weight.

 

The best usage of very small cameras is when you have to either sneak a tiny camera into a place where it's not strictly allowed or you are in shorts and t-shirt in a dirty environment (eg beach)

 

I wonder where that leaves poor DSLR folks and their physiotherapists ;)

Indeed, I consider M cameras to be compact, although I agree they're not especially light.

 

However, considering the gubbins that one needs to take with the camera (charger, batteries, adaptor plug) I'm not sure I see the point in purchasing another camera which is not as good in terms of quality or versatility, just to save a little weight.

 

Each to their own of course.

 

If I want to travel very light I either make do with the iphone, or carry a Minox/small digicam.

Yes. And a X4, X5 and an Xn - unless, of course, Leica goes out of business for

being late to market and non competitive. Maybe you ought to wait for a Leica

smart phone or an Apple phone with a Leica lens. Maybe you ought to concentrate

on using the stuff you already own. Maybe you ought to ................
