Impossible! It should bring up "Uncoded lens". My guess is—you had some arbitrary lens hand-selected. The adapter might falsely bring up either "Elmarit-M 21 mm 1:2.8" (6-bit code 000001) or "Summilux-M 50 mm 1:1.4 Asph" (6-bit code 100000), depending on whether you turn the adapter not far enough into the camera's bayonet until it clicks into place, or turn it too far, slightly beyond the click.

... off to Will van Manen for correct coding.

Just use a simple pencil (graphite pen) and paint your preferred code into the white field. You can apply any code you want ... but most useful, of course, is the R-Adapter-M code which is 110111.

Nope - It was on auto- lens detection - that is what the word weird is about.... It should indeed bring up uncoded - but it didn't.

I prefer codings that don't wear off.

That's the point. It doesn't.

Agree.

I also have this adapter, with the gray strip and if you draw a stripe in the right place it codes as R to M adapter. I did it with a permanent marker and it has not worn off after many mountings and unmountings.

I'm keeping my order for the Leica version so I can just keep adapters on a couple of lenses but may change my mind on that if Leica cannnot offer this product soon. The Novoflex is very high quality.

IMHO, if Leica cannot produce its own, it should endorse the Novoflex as the solution. Maybe Leica and Novoflex can strike a license deal and the Novoflex becomes the official adapter.

Assuming that I have been informed correctly, the original leica Adapter will be manufactured by Novoflex:p

See my post of the last 15 minutes on the other R-M adapter thread.

In a few more hours I will be able to confirm if mine works with the white strip.

Got it in my hands just this minute.

Here's what happens when you power on the M with the coded Novoflex one white paint line adapter, i.e. there are no black cuts-only matte looking paint over the 6 bit code area and then a white strip in position 3:

1. Nothing until you hit Menu button.

2. The first line of the Menu is Lens Detection. You will find it has already been set to Manual.

3. Hit set while Lens Detection is highlighted.

4. Hit set while Manual is highlighted. (As mentioned in #2 above the coded adapter forces the camera to Manual Lens Detection.)

5. You will now see the list of R lenses to choose from.

6. Pick your R lens from the list and press set.

7. Let out a cheer since you finally have a coded R-M adapter that works right out of the plastic box

This one works on my M just fine right out of the box.

I think I know one possible reason for the strange result. If the adapter is similar to my Novoflex LEM/CONT, the white strip is slightly shorter than the LED strip on the M240. On the other hand I would have expected that to bring up a Summicron 50mm IV 100001 or ASPH 50 Summilux 100000. Hand coding brings up 53 (110111) R menu every time. As the white strip is recessed, hand coding does not wear off like it does on most lenses, needing to be renewed every couple of months. A steady hand is not one of my attributes but the Mr. Blobby coding works OK.

Lou,

It is micro dust sparkling in the low but strong sunlight and being picked up by the M240 sensor. It is barely visible to the naked eye. When I saw the image I thought the same as you and had a look at the lens under a loupe.

May I ask where you got the coding done? Mine does not work either :(

Are you using a Pentel Sharpie pen? For some reason, the Leica LED's, right since the days of the early M8's, seem to like this to make black marks for coding. If my crude blobs work on the Novoflex adapter, I would have thought anyone could get it better than I did. I do use an M-Coder to get the basic positions of the markings correct and to check after I have made the markings.

No, I used a white marker pen to fill in the white strip already there, since this seems to work for most people on the Novoflex adapter. But yes, maybe I should invest in a "coder kit" after all...
