LCL999 Posted June 30, 2018 Share #21 Posted June 30, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) I thought all Leica Ms, except for the M8, had built-in IR cut filters; including the Monochrom. Is this right? Is the M8 still the best for IR. If not, what is the recommendation?
Advertisement Posted June 30, 2018 Posted June 30, 2018 Hi LCL999, Take a look here M 240 and infrared. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
adan Posted June 30, 2018 Share #22 Posted June 30, 2018 M8 is still most sensitive to IR. But IR cut filters "leak" a little - especially the thin ones still needed to work with M wide-angles without smearing the image corners. See picture on previous page: exposure ISO 8000, shutter speed 1/30, f/16 - effective sunlight infrared ISO of 30. So that camera was sensing about 1/267th as much IR light as it would have visible light - but with a long enough exposure, you can still capture the IR. Is the M8 still the best for IR. If not, what is the recommendation? The M8 has an IR filter as well. About 50% effective, as opposed to 70/80% on other models.
