sdai Posted April 11, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted April 11, 2007 The failure to get a "Highly Recommended" from dpreview ... simply means bad. Â It's a good camera ... simply not worth the money IMO.

carstenw Posted April 11, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted April 11, 2007 The review more or less echoes my sentiments. The camera is chunky, the features are neat, but often problematic, and the viewfinder is too small and dim. Other than that, neat camera, and I would love to try that lens. I hope that the next implementation pays more attention to things like viewfinder quality, and compactness.
sdai Posted April 11, 2007 Share #5  Posted April 11, 2007 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Do not believe a thing simply because it is said . -Buddha-  Or written.............  Ok, what about "it is seen as", Theo? If all that matters to you is picture quality ... there happens to be another review on dpreview today.  Fujifilm FinePix F31fd Review: 17. Conclusion: Digital Photography Review  You have to agreee that a sub-300 US point and shooter is putting a lot of more expensive cameras to shame. spylaw4 Posted April 12, 2007 Share #6 Â Posted April 12, 2007 I don't find the viewfinder too small and dim. Sure it could do with some improvement but it is perfectly useable. I suspect that the recommendation had as much to do with the higher cost relative to the "competition" as anything else. Â The v2 firmware does give some improvement in functions and quality and I hope that Panasonic continue to develop this camera's firmware features. Â Both the L1 and the D3 require extended practice and work to get the best out of the lens and images. The default settings, as has been stated here many times, will not give the best results! I"m getting there .... slowly.
dugby Posted April 13, 2007 Share #7 Â Posted April 13, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) DPREVIEW has confirmed my earlier findings on the L1. Â The L1 in-camera generated JPEGs on Firmware V1.10 are not that great, however the JPEGs from RAW are superb, and they clearly show up to be better that the 30D. Â After upgrading the FW to V2.0, my 1st impression is that the L1 in-camera jpegs seems much better than those from V1.10 , I just need to do some empiracle testing to validate this. The default settings, as has been stated here many times, will not give the best results! I"m getting there .... slowly. Â Â Couldn't agree more. RAW file quality is very good on the whole, more than enough to work with. I've worked with cameras which have more issues in the past, the more I use the D3 the more I understand it. Logical really. I do not have any major issues with it, at all. (I might if I wore glasses though) Â Karlitos.
