dkCambridgeshire Posted August 31, 2013 Share #24 Posted August 31, 2013 Does anyone know the waiting time to receive a Leica X2 a la carte? 1 month?, 2?, 3? Thanks! Could depend on how busy Leica is preparing the expected new camera(s) rumoured to be announced in a few weeks time. From the recent Focus Numerique interview with Dr Kaufman: 'For the next three years Kaufmann promises many new “very interesting products.” This fall and next spring new cameras will be announced.' Remember that when the XV was announced, stocks were available at all main dealers from day 1. Given the success of the MM there could be an XM or XV-M announcement at some stage dunk
CaptZoom Posted August 31, 2013 Share #25 Posted August 31, 2013 To the OP, If you've waited this long, it might be worth waiting just a bit longer to see what Leica releases in the next few months. That being said, the X2 is competing in a crowded market and all the offerings have comparable image quality (barring the Sony RX1 series which by all accounts surpasses just about everything else). My suggestion is go try them all at a store, or maybe rent them. Go for the one that fits your hands well- it maybe the X2 or it may be one of the others (X100s, RX1, the Ricoh, the one by Nikon). On the other hand if you're smitten with the X2, then go for it man. Otherwise you'll just keep wanting it no matter what else you get.
mrware Posted September 5, 2013 Share #26 Posted September 5, 2013 What Leica has that most digital cameras don't is a nice user interface in which you can operate the camera much like a film camera. Manual dials with markings on them for aperture and shutter speed. You don't need to look at the LCD or a viewfinder to see how things are set, in fact you can change settings with the camera powered off. The camera gets out of your way better than many. I have owned a Fuji X100 and the Leica has a better lens in all aspects except aperture. The X100 also drank batteries. Not sure if the X100s improved on that or not. Guest badbob Posted September 5, 2013 Share #27 Posted September 5, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) If anyone more could give me a tip about buying a Leica X2, it would be welcome... I hope it camera deserves spending 2,000$. Your experience could be very worthy for me. Thanks! I bought the X1 when I could get it, because I knew it was the best thing at that size. It also helped that Leica made available a very snazzy case that doesn't look like a clunky photographer's case, although you do pay good for that case.... If I didn't have a Leica now, I'd jump on an X2, since it's probably still the best camera that size. I donated my X1 to a photo club after using it for 2-1/2 years, and they sold it for $1500, 3/4 of what I paid. Not bad, huh? I don't know where you are, but there's probably a Leica store not too far away. Get in touch with them by phone or email, and discuss the camera and any other options. Some of those dealers are listed here in this forum. The dealers I've talked to have been very helpful.
