Screen protectors for X-Vario

I was wondering if The screen covering on the X-Vario could be replaced with the same Gorilla Glass as used with the latest M.

I have purchased two sets of Vikuiti Screen Protectors for my camera but can't seem to get them applied properly and am feeling like a klutz. I keep getting bubbles that leave ring-like marks on the underside of the protector that don't go away in a few days as 3M/Vikuiti states they should.

If anyone could provide any tips on applying the Vikuiti, it would be much appreciated. Otherwise, the Gorilla Glass looks like the best option - if it is an option.

Amazon sells a 3" GCS Optical Glass screen protector. I have it on my XV and it works well. Crystal clear and scratch resistant surface. Very inexpensive (now down to $.96) compared to Giotto's for around $25. I found it worked just as well as I tried both.

Expert Shield is also highly recommended by Lloyd Chambers of Digilloyd.com but I contacted the company and they don't have one for the XV.

No, but you have to be really careful as it is right to the edge. It is optically very clear with no orange peel or bubbles to deal with. It does stick out further than a film type would but I don't find it to be objectionable or a problem.

I have used the ACMAXX LCD protector on my Leica M9 and found it to be very good Being made of polycarbonate it is less likely to shatter on impact than a glass screen. I see that they advertise one for the Leica Vario.

I got the Giottos AEGIS SP8306 which fits quite well. About 0.5mm clearance on each edge and the entire lcd display area is visible.

The Giottos is a little different from other screen protectors in that it doesn't actually stick directly onto the glass. There's a very thin double sided tape area near the edge that makes contact with the glass and there is an air gap between actual screen protector glass and the LCD glass. This helps to avoid problems with air bubbles caused by specks of dust.

I never use hard protectors anymore, they all have this glue which has a great hazard of damaging the LCD screen when taken off after 6-12 months

My objective is to prevent scratching, not to prevent shattering from a big impact, as the rest of the camera would be effected by this in any event.

I also avoid anti-glare protectors, as they have some coating which obscures the display.

I try to always get the soft SCREENGUARD protectors. They are dead cheap and are the best I have found for any purpose, from phone to cameras.

tribalknowledge, welcome to the forum.

I have applied several Vikuiti protectors without problems. My technique is to position the top edge very accurately and then carefully ease the rest of the film progressively downwards. A final gentle sweep with the supplied tool secures the film neatly.

I just removed the GGS Glass protector and put on the ACCMAX protector. I have found removal of this type of protector fairly easy just getting a fingernail under the edge and applying gentle upward pressure very slowly. Once it breaks the adhesion point it pops right off leaving no residue. They suggest using a hair dryer to soften the adhesive if it is set too hard. I never had a problem, in the past, removing the Giotto's either.
