pauledell Posted August 24, 2013 Share #2 Posted August 24, 2013 Mike, A lovely shot with great composition, lovely tones and sharpness. I believe I detect some faint artifacts in the upper right of the picture (in the sky). Paul

Mixalis Posted August 24, 2013 Author Share #4 Posted August 24, 2013 You are right. I shall investigate when I get back to the computer. I now see the spots in other pictures; strange I didn't notice it before. Any ideas as to what it could be? Could be dust on the sensor, do you think? Falstaff Posted August 24, 2013 Share #5 Posted August 24, 2013 Did you mean to say 25mm Summicron? Nice image by the way. Falstaff

I hope you can solve this easily. Paul

Paul I hadn't noticed this until it was pointed out but I have done some experimentation using different lenses and have established that it must be the sensor. I have never seen such large artefacts from dust before but I can think of no other explanation. I've had the camera only a month when it was only two months old with 1,000 shots under the hood, so I hadn't expected dust problems. I think it will have to wait until I get back to London and I'll get it cleaned professionally at Leica Mayfair. Great pity because it's my only camera here and I was planning to do a lot more street stuff. Now, of course, all I can see are those blobs in the sky of every shot. I inspected the sensor and can see absolutely no dust although I know it is often hard to detect from a visual inspection. I suppose it could be some other more serious problem but it will have to wait until I can get an expert on the job.
sydkugelmass Posted August 25, 2013 Share #10 Posted August 25, 2013 Beautiful pic. The small artifacts are very common on M9/MM. It's oil spit by the shutter on the sensor. Contrast stretching enhances the undesired presence a lot. In many cases there could be residuals of oil even on the inner (not shutter facing) face of the IR notch filter: in that case a CLA at Solms is mandatory. Thank you for the positive comment but also for the advice. I hadn't considered this possibility and was thinking it was just dust. When I return to London in mid-September I will take it to Leica Mayfair and get it checked out. I hope it is not a return to Solms job because my M240 is currently there having a lock-up problem rectified. It could be a case of one back, another out.
