jaapv Posted August 20, 2013 Author Share #101 Posted August 20, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Fast service. They did not quite make express as they had to order the top. And Andrea wanted to clear her desk before she went on holiday
Advertisement Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 Hi jaapv, Take a look here Bit depressed.. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
StephenPatterson Posted August 20, 2013 Share #102 Posted August 20, 2013 Less than one week door to door. I have no complaints. the knee isn't half bad either. That is amazing service...well done Leica. If you get a chance Jaap I would be very interested to know a detailed breakdown of the parts and service for this repair. Cheers, and glad the patients are on the mend...
jaapv Posted August 20, 2013 Author Share #103 Posted August 20, 2013 No problem: Deckkappe € 239,29 Rückschale € 231.60 Bodendeckel € 267,65 Abdeckung € 13,75 Arbeit € 468,10 These are complete units with all parts mounted I guess except for the hot shoe. Add service charge € 40 and VAT and express or fast service as desired.
marknorton Posted August 20, 2013 Share #104 Posted August 20, 2013 Well that's very interesting because of the three major components being replaced - the top cover, the back panel and the baseplate, it's the baseplate which is the most expensive. Common sense might suggest that the top cover with the shutter dial and release, the flash control electronics, the thumbwheel dial, the eye-piece and the viewfinder windows plus of course the Red Dot would make it the most expensive. Then there's the back panel with its gorilla glass window, the push buttons, loudspeaker and silver selector; presumably, they do move the LCD over; maybe not because it was far from certain Jaap's was not damaged in the mishap. Then we have the baseplate with the latch and that's about it and, surprisingly, it turns out to be the most expensive. Perhaps the dreaded compliance label is what inflates the cost... Very strange...
wlaidlaw Posted August 20, 2013 Share #105 Posted August 20, 2013 Jaap, I could have given you a spare hotshoe cover. In the exchange of M's I ended up with two. Anyone else who needs one - let me know. Wilson
StephenPatterson Posted August 21, 2013 Share #106 Posted August 21, 2013 Very strange... +1 I think I would at least ask Leica if this is correct, for as Mark pointed out this doesn't make any sense.
k-hawinkler Posted August 21, 2013 Share #107 Posted August 21, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Does it have to?
StephenPatterson Posted August 21, 2013 Share #108 Posted August 21, 2013 Does it have to? Well Jaap might like to know if he was accidentally overcharged. I cannot see how the baseplate price is correct at € 267,65 when the 14496 Handgrip is selling for € 230,00 at Meister Camera
jaapv Posted August 21, 2013 Author Share #109 Posted August 21, 2013 I'm sure there is no mistake. As to why the parts are priced the way they are, we can only speculate. But I'll ask them in due course.
dadhk Posted August 21, 2013 Share #110 Posted August 21, 2013 higher price could be that the base plate is the thing that is most often damaged and in demand for replacement...and when you need one, youre going to pay whatever they ask. its price inelastic in that regard. so they charge more because they can....why does a dog lick its nuts? jaapv Posted August 21, 2013 Author Share #111 Posted August 21, 2013 Or it comes from a different supplier, or there is some expensive process involved somehow.Or whatever. I'm not going to speculate without knowledge.

StephenPatterson Posted August 21, 2013 Share #114 Posted August 21, 2013 I'm "speculating" that Meister Camera's € 230,00 price for the 14496 Handgrip is the MSP, but I haven't seen an official price list from Leica.
jaapv Posted August 21, 2013 Author Share #115 Posted August 21, 2013 Either you know, or you speculate. Exactly, reason I will not speculate.
NZDavid Posted August 21, 2013 Share #116 Posted August 21, 2013 I hope you are getting better Jaap and having a knees-up! Perhaps a sapphire knee or ankle would help. Or wear pads like serious mountain-bikers do. It's a reminder that hazards are all around. It sounds like you had fast service from Leica. I amazed at the difference from country to country, and it is obviously much faster in Europe!

skuromis Posted August 21, 2013 Share #118 Posted August 21, 2013 Well that's very interesting because of the three major components being replaced - the top cover, the back panel and the baseplate, it's the baseplate which is the most expensive The most expensive part by far is the work on the whole list. Difference between top cover and bottom plate is approx 12% (or 30 Euro), which is not that significant from my point of view. Marc.

jaapv Posted August 21, 2013 Author Share #120 Posted August 21, 2013 Nothing special, a completely "new" camera, focus spot-on, sensor clean.:) I sent my dodgy-from-new Elmar-M 50/2.8 in at the same time - and it feels like a lens from another universe - locks positively and focuses smoothly and well- balanced; the same fast turnaround.
