LR import problem from M files

Hi,

Please let me know your thoughts if this is just a SD card problem?

Some of my imported photos show up in LR 5 with strange errors, see attached photo 1 (part of photo with with red lines). This happens when I use the following workflow (1). Copying folder with files from card to local PC dirve (tried two different card readers), Then using "Add" import in LR5. The card is a Verbatim 32GB Class 10. The card has been formatted in my M. I have used uncompressed DNG.

If I use a different workflow (2) these errors will NOT happen: I use "Copy" from LR5 to new folder at local PC drive (with same card reader as in (1)). But at some (but not the same files as in (1) ) a different error will occur (horizontal lines). If I retry import the files will appear ok.

With other cards this errors have not yet appeared, so I suspect a CD card error, or a combination of card / M error. I have not yet tried card in other camera.

Strange, anyone got a clue?

Why don't you import them directly from the card into LR? Another explanation might be that your internal memory on your computer is quite small, causing it to choke omn the large files. If the cards can be downloaded correctly from the card there cannot be anything wrong with the card and the camera, so the read/write errors must occur in your computer.

If this hasn't happened with other cards, then it's highly likely that it is indeed a card problem. It's not unusual for card problems to manifest in different ways depending on how the transfer happens - what occurs is that depending on how the transfer happens, the card is being accessed at different speeds.

Hi,

Copying folder with files from card to local PC dirve (tried two different card readers), Then using "Add" import in LR5.

It all seems very complicated the way you are doing it. Don't copy the folder to your PC, just import the images from the folder on the card into a new folder on your PC. That way you aren't importing any additional junk data present in the card's folder. It may or may not work better. But a card reader is by far the best thing to use, so stick with that and find a solution that still keeps it in the chain.
