Does anyone on the forum currently own the above lens? If so, I would appreciate knowing your impressions of this lens, its use and your overall satisfaction with the lens. I'm considering buying and have an interest in your use and experience. Thanks

I own the lens. I like it for the physical size, however I find it is a little dull. I may not be used to it but it lacks the depth that I get from the 35/1.4 ASPH. The images also are more contrasty than I would like.

I use the 28 2.8 on an M8 & like the lens for its size & contrast.I do not have a 35 lux to compare regarding contrast. I think it is a good match with the M8 especially at the price!

I have been using the new 28mm Elmarit on my M8 for almost four months.

It is obviously very compact and lightweight. I don't see any readily apparent difference in contrast, sharpness, depth, or color saturation between it and any of the other lenses I have. For the money, it is a great lens and I would recommend it to anyone.

Couple of test pics below.

Elmarit 28/2.8 asph & Summicron 28/2.0 asph.

No M8 sorry, just Epson R-D1.

The links still work hopefully.

In one word, the Elmarit has a bit more contrast than the 'cron with a bit harsher bokeh.

But the fingerprint of both lenses is very close and at the price the Elmarit is a bargain IMHO.

I am also trying to decide between the 35mm F2.0 and 28mm F2.8. I now have a new 35mm F2.0, but wonder if the 28mm would be better suited to vacation/landscape type shots, plus I could save some money switching to the 28mm.

I have tried to try or purchase one for months, but they are still backordered.

Any new on the SF24D Flash? - Also backordered??

I am using the 28/2.8 and, as someone else mentions above, I find it a bit dull and contrasty compared to the 28/2.0, 35/2.0 and 35/1.4, all of which I try to use more. The grayscale of the 28/2.8 (I do only BW) seems leaden or thick, with a clumping of the middle grays. It also does not have the ultimate sharpness of the other three lenses. That said, these are relatively small differences and it is still a good lens by most standards. It definitely won't make or break a photograph, which could be said for any Leica lens you might choose. The physical size is wonderful and very balanced on the camera.

...Can you tell me why the 28/2 shots all seem overexposed in comparison to the 28/2.8?...

Ah yes? I dit not notice that.

As far as i remember, all comparative pics have been shot within a few seconds at the same apertures.

For instance, does this one look overexposed to you?

Maybe it's just my monitor, but the image on the right looks like it's a little less blown out than the one of the left - I assumed you took them right after each other using a tripod or something so you'd have a good comparison - so it's interesting that one looks "overexposed" as if a 5.6 on the Elmarit is not quite the same as a 5.6 on the summicron.

I don't know if I'm even seeing it right, and I don't know what it means since maybe it's logical to re-meter for different lenses and maybe you didn't re-meter.

It's more obvious to me on the image of the lamp, but that's more complicated because of how it handles flare and stuff. right?

Thanks again for posting this, it's something I've wanted to see for a while.

Must come fom the profile of the old iMac i use at the country.

You might wish to disable it by choosing 'Save as' in Photoshop or Elements, then close the file and re-open it, does it look better?
