StephenPatterson Posted August 10, 2013 Share #41 Posted August 10, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Can you prove that? Aren't you mildly concerned with libel? Steve Huff only gives "positive" reviews, especially to those who give him free lenses or first access to cameras. By his own admission he does not post negative reviews. I know vendors who have dealt with him, and the terms are made crystal clear. Pay for play. The mistake people make is they think Steve Huff is an impartial review site like Consumer Reports for all things photographic. What people should realize is that he is basically a lobbyist and his clients are his site sponsors and advertisers.

Oh please, I don't see him 'lobbying for his own cause' for the profit of equipment manufacturers or his sponsored website. (Or if you have the address of his gear review site please let me know!) If I say a Leica lens is spectacular and someone should buy it am I therefore a Leica lobbyist?

jackstraw Posted August 10, 2013 Share #49 Posted August 10, 2013 By definition, being here at all implies a certain degree of privilege. So I just have one question...why all the anger?
MarkP Posted August 10, 2013 Share #50 Posted August 10, 2013 Don't you know? Because Leica users here are oh so superior No, only joking. Welcome to the forum. Some people just like to vent a bit. They usual suspects who will gladly raise their hand to be identified. However, there are many more threads here with posts, and posters, of better temperament and more information . And by no means is everyone here privileged, but all are equal and treated with respect whether they have a new S system or a beater of an old CL with a CV 40mm lens, or anything in between. Jeffry Abt Posted August 10, 2013 Share #54 Posted August 10, 2013 Lots of hate and rage in this forum...hate for Steve Huff, Ken Rockwell, etc. Now Nick Bllton. This thread is a perfect example ... egrossman Posted August 10, 2013 Share #55 Posted August 10, 2013 Only gives positive reviews? Really? iforum Posted August 10, 2013 Share #56 Posted August 10, 2013 Have you met the man? Had dinner with him? I have... and he told you that he gives positive reviews for money no matter how bad/good the camera is? Never met him nor do I see a need, what he presents on the net may be over the top at times but I doubt it is about lying to the audience.
pico Posted August 10, 2013 Share #57 Posted August 10, 2013 That's not libelous. That's an opinion. Opinion in the case of libel does not mean an expression of an impressionistic, uninformed view. Such can still be libel, unless you are considered incompetent. Are you?
Guido Posted August 10, 2013 Share #58 Posted August 10, 2013 Well, he expressed quite a bit of contempt for Hasselblad's new flagship "cameras" (the Lunar and the Stellar) recently. Which proves that he does know how to write negative reviews. But then again, that probably wasn't too difficult in this particular case
MarkP Posted August 10, 2013 Share #59 Posted August 10, 2013 Only gives positive reviews? Really? The Leica X Vario Camera Review | STEVE HUFF PHOTOS Erik Just read it and I must admit that it seems very balanced to me. Excellent construction and IQ, no VF, andcrap to use except for well lit landscape/still life. To digress, I think that for a 'compact' well lit landscape/still life camera I'd buy a Sigma Foveon Merril DP for $700 and probably get better output. Equally slow AF & short battery life, but faster lens and more compact. I guess the Sony without the AA filter sits here as well. I could have a holiday to take nice photos with the $2000 left over (oh, sorry that would be $3000 left over by the time I'd bought the Leica accessories ), or I could buy the DP-1, 2, and 3 and still have money left over for a shorter trip. Steven, we probably do have to accept his intro about unbiased reporting. Maybe he's learned after a few fiascos in the past or has really only reported gear that he likes and ignores the rest. StephenPatterson Posted August 11, 2013 Share #60 Posted August 11, 2013 Steve Huff's Leica reviews don't seem to be as glowing as they were before the introduction of the Monochrom when he was invited to Germany for the unveiling. He has also expressed a certain amount of frustration at not being allowed access to new products ahead of the crowd. Look, Steve Huff is a fun guy. He's fun to drink a beer with. But that does not make his website fair and impartial. It's a for profit site that accepts advertising revenue and free samples from companies who's products he reviews.
