Enrique Santa Posted July 24, 2006 Share #6 Posted July 24, 2006 What Hiper 67 had said is clearly and probably is his only information, that kindly transmit to all of us: "I was just speaking to a well known photographer who apparently just got back from Leica headqaurters who told me that he not only has seen the M8 but was extremely impressed by it..." 1º It is a reality because he has seen it (the photographer)...."not only are threads in this forum, rumours, or articles, even some of them came from leica management". 2º He is impressed (the photographer, again) At this moment I´m only impressed by the anounced price and the lot of people at this forum that is going to pay it :>)

erl Posted July 24, 2006 Share #8 Posted July 24, 2006 So! It's not a rumour. There really is going to be a digital M!! Yeah, well, I probably will buy one but really, post (real) information or be silent.
wparsonsgisnet Posted July 24, 2006 Share #9 Posted July 24, 2006 I placed my order at the beginning of the year (just in case the Leica rep wakes up) and I PROMISE to post reactions and pix when I become the first person in Boston to get one. frc Posted July 24, 2006 Share #10 Posted July 24, 2006 I was just speaking to a well known photographer who apparently just got back from Rosswel headquarters who told me that he not only has seen the UFO but was extremely impressed by it.... Which photographer, what was impressive about the camera ( design, feel, specs ) did he see prints, come on, be more specific.... ghrumpfh Fran
grober Posted July 24, 2006 Share #11 Posted July 24, 2006 Look for some substantial "leaks" to begin around the second week of August. -g
stunsworth Posted July 24, 2006 Share #12 Posted July 24, 2006 Well if Leica were Canon or Nikon they'd already have a 'teaser' page on their website - or accidentally release a picture before withdrawing it quickly - but not so quickly that lots of people don't get to see it of course ;-)

marknorton Posted July 24, 2006 Share #14 Posted July 24, 2006 What surprises me is how successfully they've kept the camera under wraps. If it was a car, we'd know all about it. Providing the camera starts shipping soon after Photokina, it will at least be better than the L1 which has been forever in the making and has yet to prove its mettle. jmr Posted July 24, 2006 Share #15 Posted July 24, 2006 Let us all hope that Leica are being typically British about publicity; the product will do the selling for itself.
zanydave Posted July 24, 2006 Share #16 Posted July 24, 2006 So, does this mean they've actually manufactured one?

andybarton Posted July 25, 2006 Share #18 Posted July 25, 2006 I'd rather Leica behaved like Apple. You know that there's going to be a new PowerMac announced in a couple of weeks time, but security is so tight, you never see it until the day it is launched. This is, of course, unlike a lot of other companies, who promise something that will be the "killer appliance" and that they will release it in 6 months time, and then nothing happens. Because it either didn't work, or it was rubbish. So, Leica are doing the right thing by keeping the M8 close to their collective chests, IMHO. But... We know it's coming. We know when it's coming. We actually know what it's going to look like (more or less - it will not look like an M5 ). We know what the sensor is likely to be. We know about the shutter. We know the sort of price it's going to be. We know it will take fine photographs (in the right hands). What else do you want to know?

earleygallery Posted July 25, 2006 Share #20 Posted July 25, 2006 What else do you want to know? Andy, if I may, a few burning questions I can imagine most here want to know..... What finish will be available, black painted/enamel or chrome or both? What exactly will those black n white dots do? What body covering will be available? Will al la carte be an option? Will it have a red dot? What type of battery will it take? What sort of lugs will it use and will there be adequate strap rub protection? Will it have that 'Leica feel' Will the LCD be reversible? Which way will the shutter dial turn? Will it have built in dioptre correction? What will the viewfinder be like? Will the body be engraved or will markings be painted on? Will it have the old style Leica logo or new? What sort of strap will come with it? Which viewfinder frames will it have? What will it smell like? Will the sensor be replaceable? What sort of frame counter will it have? Where will the tripod socket be? I could go on
