charmicarmicat Posted August 7, 2013 Author Share #21 Posted August 7, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thanks Pico for the tip on temp. I'll just keep it the suggested 20C until I feel comfortable enough to experiment. I will try to develop four rolls this weekend and post something as soon as I can. gsgary... those train pictures are crazy looking! Really amazing. Thank you for sharing this. Advertisement Posted August 7, 2013 Posted August 7, 2013 Hi charmicarmicat, Take a look here Rodinal/Adox Adonal Newbie. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Michael Hiles Posted August 7, 2013 Share #22 Posted August 7, 2013 I was told when I started developing with Diafine that all should be at the same temperature. Prepare everything the night before, let is stand in the same room overnight so that everything would be at the same temperature and then go for it. I did it and it worked. Would the same idea apply to Rodinal/Adonal or is it temperature sensitive and stick with the 20C temp? Temperature is not crucial - just do the same thing every time. If you use 23 (or 20 or whatever) degrees, always use 23 degrees. Then adjust your development time to produce the contrast you want. I would do 20 and stick with it. I also recommend using the same temperature all through the process - developer, stop (if), fixer and wash. Don't wash in cold water - it works much less efficiently and effectively, and there is the possibility of reticulation (an alligator skin-like effect in the gelatin - rare but possible). If your objective is making pictures, keep it simple, and always consistent. If you are planning a hobby as an amateur chemist, that's another story. Same advice about lenses and physics. Thankyou very much, why not try a roll at 1+25 and another at 1+50 and see what difference it makes This is 26 years out of date TriX 400 in rodinal 1+
charmicarmicat Posted August 8, 2013 Author Share #24 Posted August 8, 2013 Thank you all so much for taking the time. I will use the more conventional method at first and once I have "mastered" it, I will experiment.

I am going to try to develop a can (four rolls) this weekend, quickly scan proof sheets, pick a shot that speaks to me, and work on it. Hopefully mid week, time allowing? charmicarmicat Posted August 9, 2013 Author Share #28 Posted August 9, 2013 Okay folks, thing look good. Negs are out of the tank and look very clear. Everything is drying and will be cut into the usual ribbons as soon as things are dry. Hope to get to scanning on Saturday or Sunday an will post something as soon as soon as I can. Again, thank you all for all the help. It is very appreciated and I hope to pass on the knowledge when asked. Guy.
charmicarmicat Posted August 11, 2013 Author Share #29 Posted August 11, 2013 Okay. Here are a few shots, quickly worked in PSE. I am really digging the results I've been getting with Adonal. A whole new world that needs to be explored. I think the advice of consistency that Michael Hines has really sunken in. Again, thank you all. Welcome, dear visitor! Olimatt Posted August 14, 2013 Share #31 Posted August 14, 2013 I have also started playing with Rodinal 1+50. I just love it with PAN-F! Try it out! Welcome, dear visitor! Maarten Posted August 15, 2013 Share #32 Posted August 15, 2013 Hi Olimat, good results with Rodinal on PAN-F indeed. I did a comparison and could get even better results with Adox Silvermax. I found the 50ASA a bit of a limitation and like the 100ASA of the Silvermax much better. You can order this film from Foto Impex in Berlin. Here is a picture made with my old IIIf and Elmar 50. charmicarmicat Posted August 15, 2013 Author Share #33 Posted August 15, 2013 That cat picture is hilarious I have another question for you guys. I mixed a few rolls and there's no way for me to figure out which ones are which. I had some Tri-X rolls that were shot at 800 ISO and some that were shot at box speed, 400 ISO. What to do as far as developing? do it all as if they were 400? What will be the result on the rolls that were shot at 800? I can't imagine a huge difference but then again, I am not that experienced. As per usual, thank you for taking the time. Guy.
gsgary Posted August 16, 2013 Share #34 Posted August 16, 2013 I write on every film what i exposed it at and lighting conditions before i load another, but if this happened to me i would mix Rodinal 1+100 and stand develope for 1 hour, sometimes i add 12g sodium sulphite, here's a shot on Tmax 100 that i shot at 400 by mistake i had one M4 loaded with HP5 and another with Tmax 100 1 hour stand developement

I have my moments though Anyways, is this the only way to get the most out of the situation? If so, can you walk me through the stand development or is there an online tutorial/site you'd recommend, gsgary? Rodinal 1+100 would be 1CL+100CL, right?
