StephenPatterson Posted July 3, 2013 Share #61 Posted July 3, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) The story about the lenses is more convoluted. According to Leica the narrow tolerances and lubricants will suffice to protect the electronics. I agree Jaap, but the mount is probably the weakest link... luigi bertolotti Posted July 3, 2013 Share #63 Posted July 3, 2013 .... I will most likely go with the 35/1.4 for one of my lenses, but what are thoughts on the 21/1.4 and 24/1.4? Why do they even make two lenses that are so close? Would there be any reason to have one of these in addition to the 35? 21 + 35 is a duo that I have used a lot...imho is a perfect traveling pair; the reason for they do both 21 and 24 is the same for other vendors that do the same : there are people which , for personal taste, do prefer one to the other, simply : same applies to the fact that they list a 18 and a 21 (and a 75 and 90)... similar but different
mknaidu11 Posted December 6, 2013 Share #64 Posted December 6, 2013 I am also almost afraid to ask this, but can anyone comment on the video mode? What is the point of video mode if you don't have autofocus and your not using a tripod? Go for M9 or M with noctilux for all the night shots, even stop down noctilux perormance is excellent. U can add a lens 35mm f2 at alter date for contrasty pictures.
mknaidu11 Posted December 6, 2013 Share #65 Posted December 6, 2013 If there is already a thread on this or a more appropriate place for this post, please point me in the correct direction. I am ready to jump ship from Nikon to Leica and would appreciate advice from experienced users of the camera on the following points. 1) 90% of the photography I do is traveling photography of landscapes and cityscapes. The ability to take very good crisp night shots is very important to me as I enjoy taking night shots of lit up skylines. I like to take my favorite shots and make large prints (100 inches) on metallic paper to hang on my wall so focus and color are extremely important to me. The reason why I am interested in Leica is the obvious. It is said to produce unique images with incredible quality using the best glass available. Sharp focus and control of focus is also of utmost importance to me and I am under the impression that this camera will offer more precision and consistency than can be achieved with the autofocus of an SLR. Also, of course, the Leica allure is a factor in my desire to own a Leica. I have a few concerns about the camera. From what I read it is touted as a camera that is meant primary for hand held shooting for fairly nearby subjects. A great deal of what I will be shooting will be far away and because I make large prints a tripod will frequently be preferred and will certainly be necessary with night shots. Is the M (240) the right camera for me? 2) What lens would be most appropriate if I am only going to buy one lens and would like something that will be good for everything. Would anyone have advice? 35mm/1.4? Go for M9 or M240 with noctilux for all the night and day shots. Stop down noctilux performance is excellent. At a later date you can add 35mm f2 for contrasty clear & pictures.
