Leica M Typ 240: Unreliable or Reliable - Survey

No offence meant, but what do you shoot 800 shots of in a day?

Just curious.

Perhaps being a pro leads to way more coverage than what an old retired guy does :)

No offence taken at all, today for example I have two shoots one to illustrate an annual report the other for a website. Tomorrow is a new client and it's for all the visual collateral for their new website. Anyway I do overshoot as a legacy of shooting Canon for the last few years, I am learning to slow down. Weddings however are a different story, my average day is 8 hours from bridal prep through to dancing so there is a lot to cover.

I'll make a note of the number of shots today

I love my M240, but I can't say it's reliable.

I have had to send my M back to Leica a couple of times to fix problems, and I can swear I was not mistreating it.

However as many others have said electronics are delicate things and will have issues . . . I am sure there are reasons to everything, but sometimes (seemingly) spontaneous errors arise.

That said, after years of using Canon, I never had much problems with their dslrs. Maybe I was lucky with Canon and unlucky with the Leica, but my view towards Leica quality isn't too positive.

I still do love the experience with using a Leica, but can't say it is reliable.

I think you need a lesson in large format and previsualization

A friend used to shoot 5 rolls per wedding.   Develop 150 rolls Sunday evening,  then had a crew print them that week.   He had many photogs working for him and he trained them all.

He still bought 100 foot rolls by the case and put the film in Leica Cassettes.

New firmware looks like it has sorted my lockups. None since the new firmware. Only three before than in about a year.

One body had a holiday in Germany for calibration. But I'm also a heavy shooter ( up to 100K images per year and probably 50K on the M's) so servicing is inevitable, for me.

Reliable. Yes. And now all my gear seems to be calibrated well I also find my shot count dropping slowly because I trust it. That's a good thing.

You are too right, I remember shooting weddings on M6's and I was told that 10 rolls of 35mm was crazy, what could I possible find to photograph over a day to use that amount up...

Now I edit down to 400 - 500 images over an 8 hour day (with two cameras btw), and still frequently get an email asking 'are there any more?'
