Olimatt Posted June 29, 2013 Share #1 Posted June 29, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello, I have never found in germany a lab who is developping and printing analog for a reasonable price. Thus I have always scanned my B&W negatives and printed digitally. I have just discovered that ilfordlab.com seems to offer some "cheap" develop&print services: 35mm 4x6" for 11 pounds. Would you recommend them? I would love to be able to send my next holiday pan-f films and get real cute silver prints! Any good address in germany? Best Regards, Olivier

topoxforddoc Posted June 30, 2013 Share #2 Posted June 30, 2013 Olivier, Machine prints from a lab will never match a proper hand print. Personally I would develop your film and continue as you do now. If you want a large silver print, then pay a master printer to do it for you (unless you’re good in the darkroom). If you print a lot, then you may want to learn how to wet print yourself. Charlie

Do you think they would develop my films correctly (PAN-F) or will they use non-specific developers and process them without care....?

It is really easy to do it yourself - even my youngest son could do it at the age of 9. Spend about GBP 40 and you'll have all the kit you need to develop your own film. You'll need a daylight tank, changing bag, can opener, scissors, thermometer, measuring jugs and some chemistry. Learning is really easy and you'll wonder why people pay exorbitant money for someone else to develop their film. Also pushing or pulling developing times is then up to you. Ilford have a really useful set of tutorials online. ILFORD PHOTO - Processing a Black & White film Best wishes, Charlie

Broadside Posted July 11, 2013 Share #6 Posted July 11, 2013 I have used this lab a couple of times for processing and scanning and have been happy with the results. They are after all the "official" Ilford lab. My plan was to have the film processed and basically scanned then, after inspection, any good shots scanned at hi-res, "burned & dodged" in Lightroom then the file sent to Ilford Lab digitally for printing using their Lightjet service directly onto silver paper. (Resin coated paper only) Unfortunately none of my shots were good enough to justify the expense so I'm not sure of the quality of these Lightjet prints. Maybe better luck next time.
