The camera looks great ...........the guy on the video is all about spluttering nonsense but I would happily accept a camera as a tax free gift.

Please note ...... Leica you can contact me via this forum and I shall furnish you with an address to post the camera to me

thanks

It's a great looking camera, but that price... whoa! Let's not forget this is basically a re-badged Panasonic LX7 with a different firmware (which if shooting raw, makes no difference). $1300 vs $360 (current price at B&H for the LX7)!

Does everyone know the Rolls Royce kit for the VW Beetle? What would anyone think if Rolls Royce was getting VW to build them that way and Rolls Royce was selling the gussied up Beetle for nearly four times the price? And in this case, the camera is barely gussied up.

I have one arriving tomorrow, and I hope it will be as good as the Panasonic LX7 I gave away last week. $1300 is a lot to ask today for a compact camera, so the build and finish of this G Star Raw had better be very, very special. And if it is, then it will be worth the $1300. After all, I have a $8000 U-Boat wristwatch that's 100 times less useful than that $1300 camera.... Just depends on which way you look at it.

It arrived. It's not the stock edition with a different skin. It has two shoulder/neck straps, a real Leica wrist strap, and the best camera case ever made. Those extras do run nearly $300 USD retail. The look is not a bling look, which may disappointment some, but instead seems rather conservative and understated. It's a camera and case you can take anywhere, and the only people who will notice would have to be conversant with what's in the bag to have any clue as to it being a camera. The performance is exceptional, but I suppose the stock D-Lux6 performs as well.

Lumix LX7 (essentially the same camera) £269

D Lux G-Star £850

If I was in the market for this no doubt excellent little camera, I think my wallet would make the decision, just like it did for the Olympus VF-2 against the Leica EVF-2.

Very true that when buying performance for money spent, the LX7 is way better. I gave away my LX7 just a couple weeks before getting this G-Star Raw. The only logical comparison for people who are already shopping for a Leica (i.e. they know the price difference and they are past all of that) is between the D-Lux6 and G-Star Raw. I just wanted to point out something that many critics of the G-Star Raw failed to mention and take into account: The very useful accessories like that carry case, which account for much of the price difference.

And.....?

Not sure what you're asking. In actual shooting today with the G-Star Raw and the X Vario, two things impressed me most: The XV is really big, and the G-Star Raw is relatively small, and looks pretty good. I like the finish much better than black or white. Back at the computer, the images compare pretty well, for daylight shots. In much lower light the G-Star Raw gets a big boost from its f1.4 lens, but loses some of that with the small sensor size. Still, a lovely camera - I feel like I got something really good for what I spent.

I think they should make a disco camera... with a picture of John Travolta on it... and every time you power it up, you'd hear the Bee-Gees.

Only, you'd have to put rhinestones on it to make it look like "only rich people can afford one of these".

*AND*, for accessories, it should come with a pair of 6 inch high heels and a pair of polyester bell-bottom pants. Throw in some chest hair and cheap gold necklaces.

... maybe a shirt with a really big collar, too.
