Gray Paint Leica IIIC with Flash Sync?

Hi all, came across a gray paint IIIc (non K serialized) but it oddly has a flash sync right below the flash shoe. Serial number is consistent with other gray paint examples, and it looks like the right shade of gray; both the body and the leatherette. It looks like the flash sync job was done very well, probably by Leica? See attached photos, (it's in pretty decent shape) I'm curious to see what our experts have to say!

Thanks in advance.

the flash sync it's a pity...

cheers.

yes, and almost sure not from Leitz. Factory upgrade would include plate under the speed dial.

somehow I canot resist the feeling that the paint looks too good (refurbished?), gray paint was rather soft

jerzy

I understand your legitimate doubts, not easy to tell from here.

Mint grey cameras do exist, as refurbished ones. I've research a lot regarding the paint they used, at least 5 variants found.

I've seen cameras with excellent original high quality finish, others, original too, with poor paint job.

To make things even more complicated, also regarding the application and the layers there are differences, so it is difficult to find two identical.

Then, again, have influenced the place of storage, the environment, temperature and humidity ... all things that create different shades.

You should see in person also because these cameras are very difficult to photograph.

best wishes.

I think it looks like a refurb, but better photographs are needed.

The wear on the eyepiece isn't consistent with the overall condition, the lettering is eye wateringly crisp and clean, and the vulcanite looks like it has been sprayed over in the same colour as the top and bottom plates. There also does appear to be a small amount of vulcanite missing near the lens mount, and this also looks like it has been sprayed over in grey when usually there is the old orange glue and silver body shell underneath.

The first and easiest thing to help decide would be a chip somewhere to see if there is brass or chrome underneath the paint. Also check for any paint build up or glue around the strap lugs as these are unlikely to have been removed during a refurbishment.
