Anyone who has used the adapter yet? I ordered mine 3 months ago but they can't tell me when I get it.

I ordered mine 18 Sept 2012 and still not available. It's like a baby-takes 9 months to come into the world. Although this baby could come late, but we hope highly mature.

I have an old Leicina adapter that I modified and coded. :) It should work.

If it's the 22228/500934, that is a very tricky one to get to work. With some it works and others not. I have coded and recoded mine and it will NOT bring up the R lens list on my M's. As you know at least it brings up the correct 28/90 frame lines.

As the M R-M adapter goes, Jono mentioned he was a bit surprised in that it only brings up the lowest FL on zooms he tried, i.e., 28 even when zoomed to 90 on the 28-90 R. But I would rather have some EXIF data rather than none. In addition it hopefully will fit all R lenses, even the ROM versions.

I purchased an ebay variant that has worked well enough, it's coded with a Sharpie and the menu is then available. If I couple a Leica 14127 (M to R adapter) to the R- Adapter-M I have an extension tube for M and if coupled opposite I have an extension tube for R. This has been the only M tube I could find, if others exist I would be interested to know about them.

Daryl-

Kindly indicate which exact M-R adapter you got via ebay which must bring up 28/90 frame lines in order to get the R list appear. Thanks.

I don't know who I purchased from and a search has yielded nothing. The adapter was cheap and looks like this one:

Leica R LR Lens to Leica M LM Voigtlander Adapter | eBay

It is tight on the M body but loose on the R side, it does focus to infinity.

Thanks however the one you link does not have the 28/90 frame lines which is required to bring up the R list when prompted. Does your adapter frame cutouts look like the one you link?

Yes, you're correct about the framelines, it brings up the 35/135. I checked the menu and it works. My adapter looks exactly like the one pictured.

Here are images of adapter, menu and coding.

Daryl, the length of the cam on the mount of the adapter you show sets the framelines to the 50/75 pair. (I have measured the length of the cam, by scaling your photograph to true mm) So it is interesting that your M (typ 240) is able to bring up the R lens menu with the 6 bit coding and the "wrong" frameline pair.

The shortest cam is the one for 35/135, followed by the 50/75 cam and the 28/90 cam is the longest.

I have the same adapter as you have, so I'll code it today and see what happens. I have already applied the 6 bit code to a 28/90 mm flange and it does bring up the R lens menu in the Leica M (typ 240).

Hi Bert,

Good information on the cam, I've never known how the camera knew which frames.

I did place the adapter on my camera to recheck frames, the 35/135 came up.

Does your adapter fit well on both the R and M side? I am thinking of trying to tighten the R side, it is quite loose and sloppy.

I did place the adapter on my camera to recheck frames, the 35/135 came up.

So there are 2 things unexplained here

1) How is the Leica M (typ 240) able to show the R menu with 35/135 framelines activated?

2) How is the 35/135 set activated with the mount you showed in the photograph, while the cam has the length of a 50/75 activating cam

Would be very interesting to hear your results. Thanks. We might be onto something in that any R-M adapter works if coded properly, unlike early assumptions.

That was also my confusion too. Trouble is that coding my Novoflex adapter is a pain since it is anodized black. I guess someones silver tape idea might work.

Can you give some details on silver tape...is this similar to film splicing tape?

The poor quality iphone picture could have distortion??? There is some blur showing.

That may very well be the case

I've coded my LR-LM adapter with the code of the Leica R-adapter-M. This adapter brings up the 50/75 lines and after coding it, it does not bring up the R lens menu on the Leica M (typ 240). As I said earlier, I was able to code a 90 mm mount that did bring up the R lens menu.

The MATE 1st version had many frame line problems due to the linking mechanism, proving that the whole system is fiddly. It may well be that this mount happens to trigger the digital focal length sensor correctly whilst - just- bringing up other framelines.
