D&A Posted June 14, 2013 Share #1 Â Posted June 14, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi All, Â Via e-mail, does anyone know of the e-mail address and name of a person thats best to contact at Leica Germany to inquire about a top plate replacement (and instalation) on a recently released M mount body? For a variety of reasons in this case, I wanted to send it off to Germany as opposed to Leica in N.J. (as wonderful and helpful as they have been). I know some have mentioned it's a slow process to contact Leica in Germany via e-mail. Â In addition, does anyone know the complete shipping address of Leica in Germany to which to send a camera body to them for installation and replacement of the top plate? Do they eventually contact the seller via e-mail with an estimate and what happens if I simply ship them a camera for this service with a letter of explanation prior to contacting them? Â Thanks for any assistance you can provide. Â Dave (D&A)

Michael Geschlecht Posted June 14, 2013 Share #2  Posted June 14, 2013 Hello Dave,  You might try speaking directly to the people in Solms, in the factory, at the Leica repair section, where you would be sending your camera  Hopefully, since they are the ones you would be sending your camera to, they are probably the people who can best answer your questions.  Best Regards,  Michael

D&A Posted June 14, 2013 Author Share #4 Â Posted June 14, 2013 Hi, Â Thank you both for your timely reply and for the link. I will follow the suggestions and hopefully will be able to get in contact with them for rush service for a non warrenty issue. Â Dave (D&A)
wattsy Posted June 14, 2013 Share #5 Â Posted June 14, 2013 In my experience, Leica never respond to emails sent to the generic addresses they have on the website but give timely replies to emails sent to named individuals. If in doubt send to any named contact you know and ask them to forward to the appropriate individual if it is not relevant to your contact.
D&A Posted June 14, 2013 Author Share #6 Â Posted June 14, 2013 In my experience, Leica never respond to emails sent to the generic addresses they have on the website but give timely replies to emails sent to named individuals. If in doubt send to any named contact you know and ask them to forward to the appropriate individual if it is not relevant to your contact. Â Ian, that's exactly what I suspected, having e-mailed them in the past from their website and had never received a reply and once again just did the same and I believe the same thing will happen. Â This is regarding having a Leica M-E top replaced (due to inadvertent damage) with a new one as soon as possible. I don't think it's a good idea to simply feel out the repair forms they supply on the web and simply sent the camera to their repair address in Solms, without first having some sort of e-mail correspondence with them, especially that I had thought I might obatin their thoughts on a rough estimate and also as to whether they have a replacement top plate on hand (which I would suspect they do). Â Does anyone have a specific name with e-mail address I could write to at Leica (Germany) or should I take the risk and simply send the camera off to them, especially in light of my wanting to inquire about expedited service. Thanks again. Â Dave (D&A)
ho_co Posted June 14, 2013 Share #7 Â Posted June 14, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Dave, I'm sure you know it's a good idea to register your camera with US Customs before you send it, and then keep the registration, don't send it with the camera. D&A Posted June 14, 2013 Author Share #8 Â Posted June 14, 2013 Dave, I'm sure you know it's a good idea to register your camera with US Customs before you send it, and then keep the registration, don't send it with the camera. Â Howard, thank you for the suggestion and I'll look into this. I did notice on the Leica website (from the link Jaap kindly provided), that there is a form that Leica requires that the sender fills out prior to sending their camera to Lecia Germany. It places a value on the camera and denotes the place of origin from which it was sent from. Â My issue at the moment is what if Leica doesn't respond to the e-mail I sent. Do I simply fill out their on-line order form and send the camera to the address in Germany they provided and hope for the best....especially that I also would like to request "rush", expedited service. k-hawinkler Posted June 14, 2013 Share #9 Â Posted June 14, 2013 You need to follow up your email with a phone call, referring to your email. Thenk stick with the person answering your phone call. Â Also, for an item worth more than 2 or 3 thousand USD, I forgot the precise number, US Customs requires to fill out another form, according to FedEx, before you can send the camera to Solms. You can request express or pro -if applicable- treatment at the same time. However, express treatment has to be approved on the estimate that you will receive within a few days and will only be applied from the moment the authorization is received. It is always a good thing to follow up the e-mail by a phone call if there is anything special, All persons answering the phone are very customer-friendly and all speak good English. Actually from time to time they will start out in English and only switch to German if the person calling responds in that language.
