Try as I will to co-ordinate my M8 with C1, which basically I like, it stuffs me around. Tonight I shot the local football team, individual pics, for the club wall display. I took careful note of the names of all players in the order that I shot them. Each pic has to have the players name printed below it. Fair enough. Â After dinner, I dumped the SD card onto the computer and fired up C1 LE. The Pro version expired ealier today that I was trialling. I was virtually ready to commit my $'s to the Pro version until the following happened. Not the first time I might add, but not with such serious consequences as this case which really puts me in the ........! Â The files downloaded in "un correct" order such that my chronological list of names no longer matches the images in the order they downloaded and numbered. It is only that I recognized some of the images and knew the names did not match that I tumbled to the problem. This is serious stuff with far reaching consequences for all assignments. Am I doing something stupid, or is the software not up to my expectations. Â Please tell me it is my fault, and how to correct it. Otherwise I am up a well known creek without a paddle, or decent software. I don't want to be told use "XYZ" sofware instead. this lot needs to work properly. I have invested hours into learning it. guywalder Posted April 5, 2007 Share #5 Â Posted April 5, 2007 Erl, if I understand correctly you are saying that C1 has re-numbered the files?? sounds wierd and hasnt happened to me. I had one case where the file numbers partially re-set, but that happened 'in camera'. in your situation, and as I am an iView user, I would load the files into iView, sort in 'time created' order and then batch re-name. If you dont already use iView you can download a 30 day trial for free. Its not otherwise much use with the M8 as it doesnt show the files, not even the thumbnail.... but it will help to re-name the files! Good Luck! I went into another program (should not be necessary!) and found the time of recording. That allows me to identify the shot order, but this is not an acceptable workflow for pricey software. Maybe you can copy the SD card into an 'origonal' folder, then copy from there into a 'working' folder before opening C1 and pointing it at the 'working' file, then check for file name changes.....? I don't allow C1 to touch my SD card. I always have the original sequence. I can quite see how annoying it can be, especially for a pro, to have the sequence messed up. Artichoke Posted April 5, 2007 Share #11 Â Posted April 5, 2007 C1 places all jpgs at the bottom of the pile if you use the "capture name" sorting "reverse order" option ...I do not know what happens if reverse order is not checked if the missing files were jpgs, they may be at the bottom of the list ...C1 "sees" DNG files differently from jpgs apparently ...the "capture date" option avoids this from what I have seen ...jpgs are shown next to DNG files in the order in which they were shot with the "capture date" option have you tried searching your drive for the files ...have you tried changing the thumbnail sorting option (the fifth from the left at the top of the thumbnails) to see if this helps? erl Posted April 5, 2007 Author Share #12 Â Posted April 5, 2007 Arthur, Â There are no missing files, they are simply downloaded and numbered in the wrong order. I only shoot DNG without jpegs. I am still conducting shooting tests with different software settings, but can't find what is causing the problem. I do have a workaround (see above) but this is no long term solution. I enter a folder name in the place provided and check the 'rename captures' option. that allows me to enter my system default numbering which is the date in reverse, to allow future searches. eg. 070405 -. Why don't you just download them first in a folder, using a card-reader, then open that folder in C1 LE as «Capture» folder? Also, but just a guess: in C1 go to Preferences, Thumbnails, Sorting, and make your choice there. What you want is either «Date created» or «Filename». Â (difference with LE?) Â The easy way to solve this is to start the session that you want to work in and then quit out of C1. Mount the SD card and copy the files to the capture folder without C1 being open - the files will not re-name. Â C1 pro lets you organize files by name/size/creation date/modification date/processed stae/tagged state and you can reverse these orders. Â You can find these options under View and Arrange By. It just starting numbering by maybe the file name or something else and not the time. i would not work this way but do this in the processing side . here is what i would do dump those files and the settings and go at this again but this time just download the card to the desktop do not use C1 to do this just drag it over to the desktop. Now open C1 and it should be in the correct order, than as you process you can rename them in the parameters that you need. basically do this after you loaded up C1 and not before and rename them. tashley Posted April 5, 2007 Share #19  Posted April 5, 2007 Erl, a quick fix is the free trial of Lightroom, which is a damn sight easier to use than C1 anyway though some feel the results to be marginally less good.  Anyway, if this happens again, load the files into Lightroom and ask it to display them in the order of their time and date - this will give you all shots in the sequence you want, however you have renamed the files.  Best  Tim Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

I rather just grab the folder and put on the desktop to copy. less stuff that can go wrong. This is just my attitude towards this and nothing technical. I rather just watch them copy and than as soon as it hits the desktop before i do anything i just drag the folder to a external drive than rename it like Honeywell Raw 040507.
