Cheers mate............its all been a fantastic learning curve, which wouldn't have been possible without people like you and all the other members here on the Leica Forum.

I really don't miss the gun-ho machine gun kind of photography that I was well acustom to, this film photography has slowed me down and my photography has become more celebrate .....see something and then say, would that really make a nice picture, (before I would rattle of 20 shots hoping for the best) now I just walk away or if I really think it will be something special I will take my time, check check and check again before hitting the trigger..............well, not quite there yet but that is my goal.

I will be in Publika this afternoon for a coffee if you fancy it ??

Cheers, Neil. I can't get over there today, but our paths will cross again. When are you heading off?

Another from Hoi An

6 x 6 TMAX 400

Asked a shop keeper if I could go up onto his roof......I got some funny looks but he agreed and took me for a walk up his small winding staircase.......here is the view from his roof.

Last one for now.......river taxi Hoi An

Heading back to bed, when I get up I have 4 rolls of 135 TMAX to develop.............I love shooting film

Fantastic set Neil. All of these would be on my wall.

Time to go to the Color House on Lafayette St. They do everything and well. Including scanning and printing and all film sizes.

I am sure they are good but I think I am going back to my old lab, CRC Vista.  My current lab leaked that they (still) process E-6 film in high volume.  And I called them and confirm that they process it 6 days a week.  Apparently, high volume is good for the end result.  My current lab told me that low volume runs the risk of getting processed film that is a little light on the blacks.  Something about the density of the film base being better when the processing machine is running at high volume.  It seems that my current lab is having some output problems and it may be due to the lower volume.  So this is pushing them to give up their E-6 machine.  They said they will probably junk it.  Then they tried to sell me on the idea that most people are using strictly C-41 these days and that E-6 was really for instant gratification, etc.  I didn't really buy this....

wonderful colors ........ i really do enjoy provia 100f --ektar 100 better on my trip to the SW because it will better capture highlights?

Thanks, Steve.  Others will differ, but my very general preference is to:

-use velvia 50 for landscapes and cityscapes that (i) have punchy color as a main part of the scene, (ii) are either evenly lit or where a grad filter can balance and (iii) use a reasonably fast shutter (certainly over 1 second and sometimes much more than this as the particular type of magenta filter needed to correct the color cast too much for me to keep track of)

-next, use provia 100F (or velvia 100) for cityscapes/landscapes that have a longer exposure (even up to 1 min w/o reciprocity failure, which his really good) and people photos where the contrast is not too great

-next Ektar, particularly in cases of long exposures (RF sucks but that's ok b/c don't really need WB or color correction filters) or scenes with a broad range of EVs.  It has much more latitude that the slide film for obvious reasons.

-I keep portra 160 and 400 and fuji pro 400H in the discussion as they are great film stocks and can perform really well in MF.  Great latitude and the color palette can be really lovely in the right scene.

Bottom line - you can't go wrong!! :)

We all know that out this way, we are passionate about our sailing.

This was at one of the Americas Cup regattas, a few years ago, OK, more than a few.

I'm disappointed. When I took this picture I had this vision of a WOW picture, the lake had these different tones to it and I had a foreground subject, a nice lake with all these wonderful tones and a background subject, now either the harsh sunlight, Yellow/ Orange filter coupled with a 3 stop ND filter or just my bad, either or the picture turned out shite................. I have tried to salvage it by bastardising it and in a sick kind of way I guess it looks so, so.

Maybe not

Shot in near total darkness, from a jetty that had a bunch of tourists scrambling to get the same picture with a iPhone.....I love how the 6 x 6 retains so much detail

TMAX 400

The roofs of Hoi An are very old

this gives a charm to the city, we do not find anywhere else

No building it's forbidden

Henry

There were nice rooftops at Carcassonne but I shot in digital because I was on my motorbike

Dusk with light breaking through the clouds

TMAX 400........I'am away to order a bunch of 120 film from B&H and wondered if we had any recommendations over my current choice of TMAX 400??

Neil,

Nice atmosphere; I was wndering however if the vertical "banding" is from the light, rain, or a developing artefact?

Best regards

Tricky answer Neil.

Part of me says, try em all.

The other is steady as she goes, learn what you have got first.

I'd possibly err on staying with what you have, but add a couple to try, something like TMax100 perhaps, to keep the same "look" and same chemicals?

Try a roll of E6 as well perhaps, one thing that does make the jaw drop is seeing M/F trannies. Oh boy.

From what I can recall it was light that was breaking through the clouds that made me investigate the location and get the driver to pull over
