Holga Portra 400 in Cinestill C-41

I like how you're using the Holga, Ken, and the contrasting photos to those taken with the Mamiya 7 (which I also like). The beachside shots above have a lovely spontaneous quality to them.

This one has to be taken in Boston doesn't it?

Very nice indeed!

Developing at 30C is something I’m very interested in doing myself, hoping for the best grain.
Can you talk a bit abut your experience please.

TMax 100 has very graduated tonal transitions and fine grain when processed conventionally (I often process it at 21 deg  1:31 HC-110)  Processing it at 30deg (7mins) was an experiment to see what would happen.  As expected, the tonal range is much more crushed than in normal processing but still holds good shadow detail and the grain is far more obvious. Printed or pp'd hard, it resembles prints from lith film.

Thanks so much, Phil! Yes, Boston. I'm getting ready for Holga week: https://holgaweek.com/  A few minutes later, I ran into a guy carrying a beautiful Hassy C/M. We had a great chat, and I hope I convinced him to get out his Holga, too, and participate!

Mamiya is in need of service, and I anticipate losing it for a couple of months. Gary knows I'm thinking of a Hassy in the meantime, but I also have the Jones for a Rollei SL 66. What a cool camera that is!

I use  Distagon 3,5/30 with care. A beast, with an unapologetic technical character. No pussy footing here. Huge front lens, weight that makes your fear for the bayonet  and you have to disassemble it to put in a filter. It´s fun as long as you don't  overdo it.

If you forget the filter  ( red filter here ) after changing from the b/w magazine to the Ektar magazine, this is what you get:

Hasselblad 205; Distagon 3,5/30; Ektar 100, red filter

I love this version and think it is much better than the intended version. The dreamy atmosphere you created here by mistake is truly wonderful!

Thank you Philipus for your comment.. I can't really recommend to buy this lens, it´s pretty rare and thus expensive. If you should suffer  ( or enjoy ? quote: never resist a temptation, who knows if it will ring a second time... ) an attack to buy it: make sure the little filters come with it. At least the UV-filter, its part of the optical calculation. Thinking about it: I enjoy  all the lenses sitting on my shelf, even the rarely used. I just love the sheer perfection of the stuff. And since I'm an amateur: no need to justify the cost ... 😁

What a dramatic scene you got from this unusual lens! The blue/red contrasts are adding much to this picture.

At the time I was on assignment waiting for Mikhail Gorbachev. He was in town to meet with Regan and nobody knew which path his Limo was going to take. They had me camped out at Herald Square for several hours.  It was quite cold. But I was 25 and it was fun. He never came through Herald Square but I think his wife shopped at Macy's (in Herald Square) a few days before so they figured...

Interesting documentary of a time long gone. I am surprised to see a tiny Volkswagen at the crossing.

Wonderful portrait, Marc. Did you use some hair dyer or how did you make the hair fly?

Nachtmsk, I looked a long time at this picture. So much to see and so much to get lost in

Thank you, James. Actually I like the "red" tree better than the green one--the latter being a bit middle of the road. But taking convincing photos of trees --seems to be  a never ending struggle for me. So the filter fail came as an accident with an unexpected, but welcome  result. Perhaps I should be a bit more playful more often.

The coast almost at sunset. I know basically nothing about this (non-photographic) film, but it gives interesting colors in C41.

Nikon F80, Nikkor 50/1.8 AFD, Fuji 4511 iso 3 (although it seems it works better at iso 1.6 in midday sun)

Thanks Ken, what a nice experience to meet up with another film user! I don’t think you can go wrong with any of the medium format cameras, but we probably all want to scratch that Hasselblad itch at some time. Pentax 67s, Mamiyas, Bronicas, Fujis… The SL66 does look an intriguing camera, too, with its bellows and I think it also has a restricted shift and tilt mechanism so that would be fun. You’re doing great work with the Holga, which is also my wife’s favourite. Although now the Polaroid SX-70 seems to be getting more attention…

Astounding, terrifying, amusing--what a symphony of color colliding with raucous forced perspective composition! Bring it on!

Thank you sincerely Rog for so generously sending me a roll of Natura 1600 to play with. An intriguing film, with lovely colours, beautiful grain and an immense amount of character. This wonderful film stock is, of course, now discontinued and Fuji should immediately revive it. I rated it a stop over at 800 ISO in my M6TTL and used, here, my Elmarit-M 135mm:

And, I have to thank Wayne for generously introducing me to Natura with a complimentary roll! Let's keep this ball rollin' wherever a vein of Natura may be prospected. Great shot, this.

Another Natura 1600 shot, again at 800 ISO with the 135mm. This was taken on a horrid day, the sun really struggling to make it through the clouds at all:

Love the strength of this subtle monochromatic against-the-sun shot.

We all do: I’m taking 9 every day, supplemented by a further tablet once a week.
I’m being treated for two separate conditions, one of which degrades my immune system, which ain’t good when we’re in a pandemic.

Looks are sometimes deceiving, but you could be taking one or two more than me.
Good luck with it!
