Popular Post Charles Morgan Posted April 3, 2021 Popular Post Share #75245 Posted April 3, 2021 (edited) 8 hours ago, Wayne said: I really like this photograph. It is hard to imagine a better rendering of such a scene. I am curious, given that this is a pretty uncommon lens, would you attribute the very unique result more to the lens, or to the processing? It's amazing enough to make me want to go out and buy the lens and the developer. It reminds me of some of the results I have experienced from the Minox subminiatures, but on a larger scale. Just spectacular. Best, Wayne Thanks Wayne! Much of the character is the lens (which I should have put as focal length of 2 inches - my apologies to the great lens makers Cooke and Taylor Hobson). It is an oddity, one I use far too infrequently (into the sun it loses much sharpness and I can't find a hood to fit it). But in the right conditions it is a great lens that can take great photos (and is probably the best lens for strange bokeh, if you are into that). Here, as in many of my photos, I am pulling in the highlights in post processing to get the detail in the sky. If (again) I could find a filter to fit, that would be a slightly better solution. It does accentuate the grain slightly, as does the FX39, a developer I use more with T grain films, but I just wanted to use it here. Below, a photo taken with the lens on TMax 400 at 250 in Perceptol 1:2. It is a unique beast, the history of it (built for the insanely expensive Bell and Howell Photo) fascinating, and while expensive, no more so than many greater production lenses. It is a bit meh to use, but the results justify it. Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! Thanks for the kind words, Steve, but like I said that's a retouched old image. It's a frame from a 400 ASA film, most probably TMY, that apparently by accident was scanned as a colour neg. I tinkered the scan a bit and ran Silver Efex very lightly---you can see the result. Well, in those days, that's the closest definition of "photography" I can offer. More visual tortures to come! 1
