Overtones as concept  came to my mind too-- and I was aware of the ambiguity of the tree at the end of the enfolding drama.. ... but if it´s sunset, why not rest for the night and go on bright and early ?   And for the music... just listening to the tune "Bossa" by Chick Corea.. the soundtrack of my student years, still a feast for the  ears

Ouch, my math teacher rising from his silent place.... Give me the intercept of the line with the parabola...  He was a young and inexperienced guy, at one point shouting at us: You You All of You won't get anywhere!    Thank you Rog for triggering the happy and shameful memories....  And, not to be forgotten: A very powerful composition you made. From the  strong and bold red planes to the nitty gritty details...

I remember Ralph Gibson's Overtones came up in conversation with Steve Ricoh last February, which touches on some of the approaches and nuances of diptychs:

Gibson, Ralph. Reflections: Thoughts on Aesthetics and Photography. Ed. Mark Davison. Gottingen: Steidl Publishers, 2006.

—-. Overtones: Diptychs and Proportions. Ed. Raymond W. Merritt. New York: Stemmle,1998.

Oh, yes. Chick Corea!

Thanks for noticing the change-up in texture between the red and the "nitty gritty details" of math.

A nasty photo with beautiful colors. Looks like the guy is holding a human femur, not an old one, but a fresh one.... just out of the butchery...  where did you take this photo ?

Thanks Klaus.

No filters used, just a double exposure using the FM2n. Can’t remember the order in which I took the shots, but from the look of it the blue flowers seem to overlay the yellow. (I’m useless with the names of plants, as you can see.) I seem to recollect that I had just purchased the Nikkor 50mm f1.2 (lovely lens) so had to use it wide open all the time.

I thought of a filter because of the blue shadows---perhaps a feature of the wide open 1,2 lens. And, thank you for asking, the flowers belong to the huge family of "Rudbeckia"s.

Overtones should be on my shelf.. there was a time when the surrealist approach of  RG appealed very much to me.

Bo, I admire the stringent esthetics of your photos. They do have a hallmark that makes them stand out. And btw: if you go on with these squares, you´ll be awarded a special edition MP 24x24 mm by the Wetzlar guys...(I would fancy one too. As a younger sibling to the Hasselblads... )

Thank you Kl@usw, this photo was taken in the south of Italy, a beautiful sunset that evening

What a splendid photo.  The mood here is really wonderful.  In my head at least, it calls up The Remains of the Day with its unexpressed longing and melancholy.
