I like this one a lot because of the lines in the gate match up with the boy's leg and frame the ball. A simple and very dynamic shot.

From my trip to Mexico in the late summer of 2010. This is where my wife grew up outside of Puebla. This is one of here cousins.

Nothing like a bit of Stoli to break the neck off the night and start the day.

Not sure exactly what time it was but it was definitely before 9am on a Friday...

I think you should continue with colour, Gary. I like this. We'll definitely meet up in August, whether here in NL or the surrounding countries.

Tried another roll of colour neg, through the R8. Pretty sure I prefer B&W.

Henry - I'm all for Kodachrome coming back but, as far as I remember, Kodachrome didn't look like that. It seems to me there is a scanning/color correction issue here — otherwise we've got "the emperors new clothes", and they'll never bring Kodachrome back. :D

In my experience Kodachrome scans well and, unlike a color negative film, you have the slide as a color reference.

Guys. I'm sorry, truly sorry to be the bearer of such bad news, and I don't want to be the "fly in the ointment", but the Kodachrome thing won't be happening: http://www.chicagotribune.com/business/ct-kodak-ektachrome-film-20170106-story.html

Like all of us here, I am absolutely over the moon that Ektachrome WILL be back, wished the same thing could be true of Kodachrome (especially Kodachrome 25) but, from the horse's mouth, it won't be happening. Sorry.

Suede,

How did you like the exhibitions in Arles? Any favourites?

The attached picture is from inside one of those...

Christoph,

I recognise the picture. It's by Don McCullin. In fact it was Don McCullin's photographs that were the high-point for me!

Sid Grossman's work was clubbed with that of Eamon Doyle under one ticket. I think Doyle was riding piggyback on Grossman's brilliance there.

There's just so much going on at Arles. Here is a succinct post by Roger Hicks on Les Rencontres 2016: http://rogerandfrances.eu/photography/arles-2016

I wouldn't be able to describe the experience better.

Thank you for linking to the R&F piece which I liked a lot. I've always wanted to, and will definitely, visit Arles. That is also a nice photo. Out of curiosity, which film and developer did you use? One of my favourites of the ones you've posted so far is the Moon and Mont Blanc one, a absolutely cracking shot.

Here's the last batch of pictures from Pak Nam Pran: the first is at the market, early evening; the second is at the fishing harbor at the River Pran; the third is the wedding car parked next to a wedding dinner of 800 guests at the sea shore.

Suede,

I can see that Don McCullin's photographs were one of the high-points as many of his pictures are quite iconic. But there were two exhibitions that I found even more interesting, for quite some different reasons. I thought how Bernard Plossu dealt with the colour reproduction in "Western Colors" was outstanding - (I love gum bichromate), and his choice of motive was very fitting indeed. I also quite enjoyed the exhibition of Michael Ackerman, not because of the pictures - I thought they were some of the weakest I have seen of him - but because of the story: manufacturer giving him a (digital) camera and sponsor him to take pictures, his using it and quite honestly writing about his experience, and then the pictures shown as a result. I think Henry would have been happy  ;).

I knew the article from R&F in your link. I too like a lot how they write about and approach photography (Their book: "Rangefinder" is quite a user instruction or perhaps a GAS handbook for this thread). I stopped buying the british Black & White Photography magazine when Francis stopped writing for them. I think her articles there were always excellent...

Anyway, it is true that people are quite tolerant of photographers in Arles...

I don't usually record details like what film etc. All my film is developed by a lab in Grenoble and the bloke is really friendly. Works for me, sometimes better than others.

Church interior. Nikkor 85/1.4. I am very pleased with the detail in the book. I rested the camera on a pew, not a soul around.
