Henry - I am not sure that just b/c a lens is sharp at f/11 that it necessarily follows that it has relative sharpness at any aperture at the infinity setting for subject that are very far off into the distance.

Adam, I just look for one lens less expensive (in waiting the Lux FLE 35)

to shoot "near" like street photos. I'll buy the FLE next year :)

Thanks for your advice.

Doc...the 35FLE is an exceptional piece of glass.  It was my first Leica lens, I purchased it with my M240P.  From the very first shot with this combination, I took a deep breath and couldn't believe what I captured.  The rendering from this lens from 1.4 - 2.8 is something special for selective focus shots; from f4 to smaller apertures the lens produces wonderfully sharp pictures for landscape work.

For me the 35FLE is most versatile lens I've ever used.  At f1.4 you can more of less shoot it anyplace, without flash.  The focus throw is short enough for quick reaction street use and long enough to slowly dial in critical focus.

Here are a few examples, albeit digital, hopfully you see what I mean:

From what you tell me this lens would be good for views "near" like the street picture

but not for landscapes (but you can do it too because Erwin Puts speaks of good sharpness

at f:11 ! ) ... with  small loss due to the diffraction at f:16 in the corners.
Effectively the center looks sharp at f:2 for near view it'll be good !

Despite this and as Ian said is its lightness which is an asset.
It weighs 255 grams with 7 elements in 5 groups

Adam,

A bit off topic, but how did your tripods fare, considering the salty environment?

Rgds

Christoph

Good question.  I washed and washed the tripod and legs after each shooting with soapy water and then let it out to dry over night in the dry heat.  Despite this, the tripod did not dry!!! To this day, if you lick it it is like you dipped your tongue in the Dead Sea water :)   This has the knock on effect of making my steering wheel in my car intensely salty, which has had the further knock on effect of maintain the slight rash that I have on my forehead from the oils derived from the salt that apparently doesn't agree with me...  :o

Another seemingly stupid monochrome view of an otherwise beautifully colorful and vibrant scene...
