Thank you, Charles. I had completely forgotten about these photos. But now, seeing the images, the memories come back to life—and so does the taste of the chicha. Yes, I did drink chicha occasionally; there were situations where it would have been very impolite to refuse.

In this particular case shown in the picture, however, I declined—I would have had to use the communal cup. As unsentimental as it may sound, I tried to immerse myself as much as possible in each country I visited, but I never entirely forgot that hepatitis A, amoebic dysentery, and the like are real risks.

Wise, under the circumstances, for the same reason I sometimes refused the "banana brew" in East Africa. Chicha is lovely though, much better than Inca Kola. 😀

Rog, may I answer with a little story that happened  5 years ago while hiking in the Malaysian jungle. My wife and me stood on a river bank undoing our shoes in order to cross a shallow river, when our guide, who had taken our back-packs and already stood in the middle of the river suddenly looked back  and shouted: "My friends, big snake is coming at you !"   My wife: " What shall we dooo ?"  Guide: "Run !!! "   We did exactly that.

Trying out the new Kentmere 200. Uncorrected scan (including dust, sorry) of an 8.5” x 11” print on very old (1990!) Kodak Polycontrast III RC, which has lost some of its vibrance but is good for making test prints.

A second example with 3.5” x 5” prints on fresh Ilford MGRC Classic (top) and Fomatone 131 (bottom). Both look good. The Ilford has a nice snap to it, while the Foma has a wonderful warm glow. It’s nice that we still have options in the darkroom.

A Zen approach to landscape; we have the No-Go mandate to remain outside the landscape, a warning, yet we venture inside by imagination, as if testing the limits of authority.

Neo-noir in color with marching time as a subtext in diptych. Finger snapping applause. Love how you and Dr. Kl@us are fashioning the vertical diptych.

Very cinematic, the shift from "long shot" to "close shot." Really extraordinary.
