A wonderful picture, Rog that, along with its title, appears to have the quality of being a quality "straight" photograph while being simultaneously affectively metaphoric. Was this taken recently during the windy days on Kauai?

Nearly 60 years ago (1956)

As a mid twenties lad I was shooting a Rollieflex to promote a band at a local pub. Geoff Woods (lead singer) commissioned me to try something different.

So I turned up with two Barton lamps & stands (remember them!) sporting a 500W tungsten lamp each. I employed my typical 'scossors' lighting. ie 180Deg apposed. (see incl. in image)

Shooting Ilford FP3, can't remember how I metered, probably a Weston Master IV.

Dammit! I don't think I can shoot better today with the best gear money can buy. Maybe I should sell it all and get the Rollie back. Still got the Bartons though (under the house).

Very nice Erl and quite the decisive moment here too.  Love the inclusion of the guitar in the frame also.

I put my first roll through a new-to-me Rolleiflex this weekend and despite being utterly confused in composing I was absolutely astounded by the quality that of the developed images.

Thank you for the comment. I still believe the Rolleiflex to be the sharpest camera I have ever used. I am now, of many years, a confirmed Hasselblad 'freak', but I wish I had never sold that Rollei. I don't think I have sold a camera since, just in case I want it again! 😁

Thanks so much, Phil, for hitting on that metaphor note. Yes, I shot this in Hanapepe, Kauai, last month, but I don't remember whether or not it was August 8, the day of hurricane tragedy on Maui, but still the wind was blowing. We got only high winds and high surf on Kauai. This window screen is on a building that was once a First Aid Headquarters, I believe, and I have been watching it gradually erode (if that's the right word) over the years.
