Silverfast user here. It’s actually an easy software to use. The only quirk is that it always scans at the scanners base exposure, which can be a problem for dense over exposed b/w film. I find that for such film, using the standard color profile in negafix combined with -3.0 exposure produces nice results.

Thanks Edward.

With both film and scanning I'm really at the near beginning of my journey, I've not yet 'graduated' onto colour being stuck on base with B&W (I had previously thought I would shoot digital for colour and film for B&W, but seeing here the effects that can be achieved with colour film it has stimulated my colour film taste buds and I have film waiting for me in the fridge - lots of it).

I'm using the Plustek 8200 with a Silverfast Ai suite, I have to hold my hand up and admit I've not yet found a control for exposure. Obviously there's a need for me to search for tutorials on the web to make any real progress.

No problem Steve. The secret with Silverfast is not to use any of the sophistications it offers. I turn everything off except iSRD with color film. The exposure control is only in negafix application, which comes out automatically when you select negative film. Apart from that, the only controls I use are the brightness/contrast/saturation sliders that are always on by default. Negafix is a genius app for negative film. The CCR control gives you the choice between film original balance (unselected) and auto WB (selected). The tolerance slider can produce very nice soft colors and highlights when you put it on zero, which I try to use on almost every shot whenever possible.

I hate to say this out loud, but I think I was getting better results from camera-scanning B&W. I'll have to do a back to back comparison to see which I prefer (and perhaps get some feedback from the helpful forum members here). The Plustek Silverfast combo together with Negafix will of course be used for colour negatives, there's no contest there. Edited by Steve Ricoh

I like this a lot, Adam. The backwards glance makes it alive, and the colours are very '70's, if that makes any sense.

+1, totally agree EoinC.

I can not understand Adox's reasoning for withdrawing Color Implosion. Bring it back for Christ's sake, well if not for him, for me, and possibly another million film photographers.
