Stealth3kpl Posted August 24, 2017 Share #38941 Posted August 24, 2017 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Still - whats your point ? You can digitalize negative/positive film with any digital camera. Sure the new Nikon has 45 megapixel and a big dynamic rage but I bet a lot of normal film scanner still kick ass if you handle them right ! I can only assume you are not reading the link correctly. I'm aware that you can wet print film, I'm aware you can buy a film scanner to scan film, I'm aware that many people use cameras to photograph negatives and convert in software, what I haven't seen previously is a digital camera being produced with in-camera software to convert negative c41 image to a positive image. From your reaction I can assume either this feature has appeared in previous digital cameras and is well known, or you're being deliberately inflammatory. I have been unaware of such a feature. I'm sorry my being late to the game, if that is the case, irks you so much that you feel the need to comment Edited August 24, 2017 by Stealth3kpl

philipus Posted August 24, 2017 Share #38942 Posted August 24, 2017 This was complete news to me, too, and I'm grateful that you posted the link, Pete. I have never seen that function before. In light of Nikon's history with the Coolscans perhaps it is logical that they include this feature. It is certainly welcome. From reading the tech specs of the ES-2 adapter it seems the camera, when in digitizing mode, will only permit saving the images as JPEG. Since it will be full-frame images perhaps that's not a big problem as they will be fairly large image files and as JPEGs open in, for instance, Adobe Camera Raw. But RAW would probably have been more welcome from a post-processing perspective. Still it's terrific that they provide this more or less out of the box solution. I can only assume you are not reading the link correctly. Stealth3kpl Posted August 24, 2017 Share #38944 Posted August 24, 2017 (edited) As I have pointed out, the camera has been announced in the last few hours. I cannot comment on its effectiveness as I haven't used it; there will be plenty of others who will manage to do that without using it. That Nikon have chosen to introduce this feature is worthy of a post Edited August 24, 2017 by Stealth3kpl

I cannot comment on its effectiveness as I haven't used it; there will be plenty of others who will manage to do that without using it. That Nikon have chosen to introduce this feature is worthy of a post Pete , first thank you for the link in "I like film thread" because it's useful to know news around "how you can scan your negatives" and probably interested many contributors in this thread. That said Nikon begin to understand they would never stopped production of their scanners. When you see , one Nikon Coolscan 9000 or 5000 reachs between 3000 and 5000 Euros it's really crazy and in addition , you have no spare parts. A scandal ! Not a good point for Nikon in my opinion ... now they notice that film comes back so they produce this camera .... Tmx Posted August 24, 2017 Share #38949 Posted August 24, 2017 Silent , I think Pete posted this link in a good intention and I must say : "thank you Pete" It has a good place in this film thread Best Henry I agree as well. To be honest it's very interesting alternative to the "regular" scanners. At the moment I am using the D750 for digitalization of my negatives (with different lens set-up) and post-process them in LR. I am still not really happy with the results. Trying the Epson V600 in combination with VueScan was even more disappointing. I always wonder about the stunning scan results here in the thread.. Best regards Jakob

Best regards Jakob Jakob , if you also photograph in MF , I counsel you Epson V700 or 750 second hand cheaper now or if you can the new one V 850 , specially if you work in b&w . Pete can confirm me because we have both compare many scanners brands in 135 or MF in one thread , now deleted by Andreas , when he changed the forum LUF to a new version LF. I have some pictures I scanned with my V700, it's really great , I'll post for you if you want ! The problem whe you scan with a digital camera and post process , you use two more digitalizing steps : camera and photo software Best Henry Edited August 24, 2017 by Doc Henry
Tmx Posted August 24, 2017 Share #38951 Posted August 24, 2017 (edited) Henry, I would really appreciate that! I am running several formats from 35mm to 6x17 and if the results are good I'll give it a shot. Although the scanning results are disappointing by now I am still shooting (a lot of) film hoping some days to solve the issue.. SunnySixteen Posted August 24, 2017 Share #38953 Posted August 24, 2017 (edited) I found an unprocessed roll of Provia100F in the closet and had no idea when or where it was from. I developed it and was pleasantly surprised to see images on the slides, and determined it was from the summer of 2003. Arnold for Governor, Burbank CA Welcome, dear visitor! Doc Henry Posted August 24, 2017 Author Share #38954 Posted August 24, 2017 (edited) Here is ANR glass mounted on strip 24x36. You have also MF glass Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! ANR glass is not for "marketting" but is really useful and increase the rendering of image. Negative sticks on the glass and so is "flat" against the glass , the definition is better .
