I posted somewhere (possibly here) recently about trying Kodak Ektar again after having discounted it previously. Ian Watts (Wattsy) reminded me in another thread about processing in the UK, that I have a Pakon F135+ scanner, and I wondered if it would have decent algorithms for Kodak Ektar. Today I found time to put the negatives through the scanner, and, after very little playing in Lightroom, have come up with something I can live with. So, in the space of 3 weeks where I was on the verge of selling all my scanners and film cameras to purchase an M10, I find myself happily considering selling the M-P240 and going back to film full time using Tmax400 with perceptol, TriX400 with HC110, and Ektar for colour.

Here is the lab scan (this post) compared with my Pakon/Lightroom scan (next post).

Not perfect but I can live with it.

CHANDIGARH

"Let this be a new town, symbolic of the freedom of India unfettered by the traditions of the past...an expression of the nation's faith in the future," famously said Jawaharlal Nehru, the first prime minister of independent India.

When India was partitioned, the state of Punjab was cleaved with its then capital Lahore falling into the territory of the newly-formed country, Pakistan. The state of Punjab which remained with India needed a new capital and the idea of Chandigarh was born. India won independence 70 years ago, so Chandigarh is a relatively new city. It lies 240 km north of New Delhi, near the foothills of the Himalayas.

Charles-Édouard Jeanneret, a Swiss-French architect (better known as Le Corbusier) was awarded the job of designing its plan and over see its execution. It's a somewhat special city by contrast to the way most other cities grow unplanned in India.

I was there for 8 days in early May 2016. Daytime temperatures typically hang around 39- 44 ºC and the intensity of the light is blinding. I shot a number of photos in that merciless sun; many are over exposed but fortunately not all. I share some here.

Sector 17. I just looked at this picture in detail and am astounded that the only sign of life in it is the crow atop the building! I've lived in Chandigarh and around for over 30 years but have never known this commercial area to be so deserted.

Interesting story Suede ... you mean this buiding is built by Le Corbusier a great aarchitect

It's now abandoned ?

Nice black tone

I don't know what this film type from 2010 or 2011  is but I scanned it in 2014 with the Pakon.

A local walk with our now departed dog, Holly. The previous day we thought we'd lost her when she'd run off after a deer. Night was approaching and I had to drive home to get a head torch before returning to resume the search. Naughty Holly ;-)

Hi Pete, the second picture has natural and nicer skin

Lovely picture , I recognize your wife .... :)

Film has great color no equivalent elsewhere

I often compare film with digital M (see all my posts above) for this moment

I speak with you, no equivalent : film is better for color without correction or less

correction if you take a habit to correct (I don't correct)

Pete , it reminds me our old thread about scanner comparison , many years ago ,

when I scan  in Tiff with my scanner Coolscan V and 5000 , I only use software Nikon

with RGB calibrated in factory and I post directly here in Jpeg

The color is not "aproximate" like in digital but "natural"  like I see

that's why I don't need correction , the habit I took when I shoot digital

with my 2 M , a bad habit

4th row stare

M6 / 50cron / agfavista200

toronto tram.

The 5th row is staring, too :)

Another shot from a stroll through Berlin. One of the many bridges over the river Spree. As you might know, Berlin has more bridges than Venice. But to stay clear, Berlin has a lot less bridges than Hamburg...

@Henry, it's all a matter of personal taste and pleasure, but have you ever connected a tube CD player with your high-end tube system?

Now before the others get bored and annoyed in this interesting film thread, you'll better get a personal message soon.

•  Photo was taken with M6 on Neopan 1600, which I particularly miss.  •

Pete Kodak Portra is also nice like the red of poppies ... and green

If the red is like "arterial" blood (not veinous)  it's fine ,  film is good :)

Poppies in wheat

June 2017

Kodak Portra 160-Leica M7-Apo Summicron 90 Asph
