Snow with grass.  M6, 50mm lens, medium yellow filter because I was too lazy to take it off, and it was very cold.

Delightful winter photograph.

Both are very nice, but the first one really stands out with the tonality and the interesting framing.

OK, officially in the "club", the SWC Club. Not sure what to make of this box camera, time will tell.

First roll to trial it yesterday, and the negs are "Wow", sort of what I expected, but then again, not what I expected. I'll try some colour neg next.

Everything everyone so far has told me is correct. It's weird, it HAS to be held level, etc, etc. And they are correct, I hate crooked, this neg is crooked, but no matter, I'm happy to at least have it to post.

Hi Gary - nice to see some results! You clearly have exposed this shot properly, and have more potential in dodging and burning to draw the eye towards the middle (and other side) of the bridge. This is all easily done with a little more toiling, which you may or may not want to do at this point since you are in test mode.

One tricky thing about leveling: no matter what you think you are seeing, it may be that, in fact, the various angles and lines are not in prerfect symmetry. So what you get may not be exactly what you thought you were going to get.

Another important thing to keep in mind is that, for perfectly fined tuned symmetry, it is not only the leveling of the camera vis a vis the ground/horizon that is important, but also the level of the plane of the lens with the plane of the subject that you are shooting (this is what LR calls "horizontal" leveling. The camera can be perfecty level with the horizon/ground, but if it is not level (or parallel) with the subject that you are shooting, the symmetry that you desire will not be obtained. The tricky thing about this is that it is very hard to know that the plane of the lens is perfectly level (or parallel to) the subject. The only way that i know of is to move back from the camera and just check with my eye whether the plane of the lens is parallel with the subject.

You can correct for this to some extent in LR.

All in all, whether you knew it or not, you chose an advanced subject for your first roll. Hopefully, you'll take it in stride and keep going.

And, btw, i agree with Michael's comment above and think the shot is successful the way it us (subject to a little more fine tuning in LR).

Best,

Adam

Excellent, Gary. I have no qualms with crooked - It reminds me of myself. I'm really pleased that you had a wow moment with the SWC, even if you did expect it.
