Old rusty pier in Kuwait. Taken with Fuji GF670 on Fomapan 100 and developed in my hotel room with Rodinal.

And now for the bad news - same pier taken with M7 and Voigtlander 35 - I have a light leak !

Why do Leica's leak light ? I do not want to bring up old news (see old M240 threads) but on expensive, high precision equipment I should not have to resort to a hair band !

Mosque in Mahboula, Kuwait. I do like photographing mosques and churches, which is odd given I have little time for religion. Taken on M7 and Ilford FP4.

A bit of long exposure? That sea looks smoothed out.

I love that pier, and could imagine it deserves revisiting again and again.

I never quite got the hand of these dramatic architectural shots. Shall have to get my red filter out and try again.

Snow's gone now...

I like this one a lot, Steve. Photography is very often about depicting reality more or less accurately but I find that I often prefer when a photo reduces a scene to only a few elements, sort of like abstract paintings do. This is one of the reasons I'm drawn to Leiter's street photography. A different type of photography, of course, but his work was often similar in that he managed to concentrate a few compositional parts into a striking image.

Thanks Philip for this; I have just looked up Saul Leiter and immediately was drawn to his work. Street photography at a distance - which is my type! Youtube does not like the country I am presently in and is not allowing me to watch In No Great Hurry. He comes across as a lovely guy from the film's trailer.

Funny you should mention that, but the pier is a place I have returned to several times. It is one of the few places that you can photograph in Kuwait without being warned not too. It is also a place where many go for selfies in the sun, which does interfere with my composition !

There are plenty of blue skies here, and the red filter can be used for dramatic effect.

Thanks, Phillipus.  Yes, Leiter's work is very interesting to me too. I enjoyed his exhibition in London a few weeks ago.

The square format compliments minimalistic compositions and Luskentyre is the most perfect location for this approach.  It draws me back again and again, the light and shadow play on the sands is always fascinating in any light.

I've photographed here many times with several different film  formats  up to 6x17cm  and also digital, but it's the square format  and fuji Velvia 50 that always works best for me here.  The clear air and almost white sand produces pastel cyan and magenta hues on the sea, sand and sky that Velvia is so good with, you don't need a lot of filtration here for an ethereal effect as the beach, sea and sky merge into each other.  I have about two more years of work to do on a Lusentyre book project I began some time ago.
