Guest Benqui Posted February 9, 2016 Share #10901 Posted February 9, 2016 Advertisement (gone after registration) Last week we had one of those really surreal sunsets. I happened to be in a pretty good spot along the reservoir lake in Central Park ready to shoot it. It was like being in a giant outdoor darkroom with the red safe-light illuminating everything. EKTAR skyfire-1.jpg Looks like in a science fiction movie! Amazing colors and mood!

philipus Posted February 9, 2016 Share #10907 Posted February 9, 2016 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Nice one Marc, and a good choice of champagne, too I think the pose and look work really well and that you've shot from a suitable distance (any closer and the head would have been too big; this is with the 80 Planar?). The one thing I would have done differently - though I fully understand it may be a deliberate choice to achieve a certain muted/dusty look - is the colour balance. I would probably have cooled it a bit (mainly adding blue and some cyan I think) which would have crisped the image up a little (to use a technical term). But the image "works" as is because I can imagine the colour balance is because of the light in the room. Sorry for my absence but I was very busy. A miller Posted February 10, 2016 Share #10908 Posted February 10, 2016 Sometimes I stop strangers on the street and randomly ask them to pose for a portrait. It let's me pretend - on a fantasy level - that I am a photographer who knows what he is doing. dgc Posted February 10, 2016 Share #10911 Posted February 10, 2016 (edited) It is also very capable of handling subtle tonal transitions. Quite a bargain! I have started to visit Poundland whenever I go into town but never find film on sale. What part of the shop is it on display ? dgc Posted February 10, 2016 Share #10913 Posted February 10, 2016 Fuji Pro 160S, C330 no processing Careful i kick, if your horse kicks you tie a piece of ribbon on the tail Do you consider the Hunting Pinks in the photo to be a fair copy of the actual ? I am just wondering how many people would process an image to reflect the 'true' colour or just leave the images untouched.
dgc Posted February 10, 2016 Share #10914 Posted February 10, 2016 Two bar shots this time. The first was developed in HC-110 semi-stand 1:125 but it didn't turn out as well as I'd hoped, though it was a fun experiment. For the purported flexibility and benefits of semi-stand I much prefer Diafine which also gives better grain on the films I use (mainly 5222 and Tri-X) and has a better compensating effect. Kentmere is a good film though. Flickr M4 and a 50mm Kentmere 400 Flickr TTL 50/2 v3 Superia 200 Focus was on the beer (of course ) What were you hoping would be better in the image ? I have not heard of film 5222, who makes that ?

dgc Posted February 10, 2016 Share #10917 Posted February 10, 2016 Same camera and film, shot in the wild flower meadow behind Jane The C330 is great for close-ups. Great colours in the poppy. How did you judge the framing with a TLR at short distances - experience or a tripod with paramender ? I have the paramender 2 but have never used it, but then I have not done much tripod/ close up work with the C330 yet.

I just could not ask strangers if I could take their photographs, maybe it is my 'Britishness'! I have watched one or two of Eric Kim's videos on youtube who says he can teach you how to get over this fear, but old dogs and new tricks etc. This was my one attempt at Street Photography and by the time that I had the shot in focus they all started smiling for me. Notice how I gave myself the barrier of the door between the subject and myself and, distance to run Welcome, dear visitor! philipus Posted February 10, 2016 Share #10920 Posted February 10, 2016 Very nice series Dave. I particularly like 1 (a strong contrast between the man on the phone and the man sitting on the street) and especially 2 which is a good street portrait where the lady is unaware of being photographed (I find one can often see in people's eyes that they know they're on camera).
