Thank you, I wasn't very happy with them

well, you are a hard man to please!

I can see how the first may be considered too high contrast; however, I would have thought that there is plenty of information in the shadows to open them up.  Also did you aim for a flat scan or a polished and processed scan?  Again, I would have thought that with a good average exposure there would be plenty of detail in the shadows to dig and burn as you wish.  Are you thinking that you may have not exposed enough for the shadows or that the film did not do a good job of retaining the detail despite putting the brightest zone on, say, 6 or 7?

I didn't do much processing so I might have a play with them later, is it better to have a flat scan and tweak them in post ? I usually only play withe the curves and slight sharpening

horses for course, but I aim for as flat a scan as possible and then process until I'm happy (or not).  It is more work, but I find that I can get more out of the file...

Nickel and Dime OPS at Smoke Jazz Club -- Tri-X pushed one stop, Canon TL camera (50mm FL lens) 1972 vintage. Used it because my M-A had the wrong film .... thinking of buying some FD lenses cheap and using the TL a little more often .... sometimes going back to the SLR is fun (maybe I will get an Leicaflex SL (around the same vintage and a couple of long R lenses, just a thought) . . .
