M7, Cron 90, XP2, HC-110:

Hi Chris,

HC-110 is a traditional B&W film developer.  Is Ilford XP2 not a C-41 process?

XP2 can be developed successfully in a variety of B&W chemicals. I never use C-41 for it, preferring to save the expensive chemicals for colour films. BTW, all C-41 films can be developed in B&W, but you will lose the colours (Duh!)  Why would you do that? - well, if you only have a colour film, or only have B&W chemistry to hand, you might, in desperation, do it. On the other hand, you might mix up two rolls of film in the changing bag and then start processing one in the wrong chemicals. That's what happened to this Ektar 100, developed in TMax developer:

I found this thread googling leica and slide film (somehow). I shoot digitally - lately with a Sigma Merrill DP2 , but I am nostalgic about film, particularly slide film. I think Kodachrome has the most unique look. I miss it. I also used E100VS a lot, and I miss that too.

And viewing some of the images in this thread I have leaned that I need to try out Portra 400!!  I have tried 160 without much success, not sure why, but I just didn't nail it like I wanted to.

Here are a couple from Kodachrome (I think) - Leica M6 and Summicron. This thread has inspired me to want to break out the M6 and shoot with it more.

And lastly a pleasant street scene, Rhodes.

I think the street of the Grand Knights, but could be wrong.

Gorgeous place though, loved it.

In October we spent some days at the Baltic Sea and enjoyed the sunny autumn weather. I took the opportunity and made some pics with my Mamiya 645 1000s, which I didn't use for a while. The best results I got with Portra 160. One other roll curled from the spool before I could react, causing lots of light leaks - maybe I can show some of the pics on the Lomo-Website  As the work with this medium format camera is also funny and the format itself is very pleasing, I am once again at the point where I have to find the right way to digitize my negatives. For this example I used my X Vario with a Raynox 250 achromat on a tripod. The light came from a DIY light board I made a while ago. I think I should by some medium format film holders to get the film flat. The most challenging is the conversion in Lightroom, as I am struggling to get the colors roughly right. Although I have read a lot of threads regarding this specific topic, I think I have a long way to go - or buy a medium format scanner...

Anyway, here is one of the pictures:

After Portra and Superia, i shot a roll of Ektar.

This film loves clear light, the more the better judging by my different exposures and hour of the day.

Here are 3 samples:

KodakEktar-14.jpg

KodakEktar-10.jpg

very interesting renditions.  I have to say that the first two look more like portra 160; whereas the last looks more like Ektar with its punchy colors.  In any case, they are very nice whatever film was used!!  Enjoy and please share more.  Best, Adam

Fabulous, as usual, Marc.  I really don't know why any model would want to be shot with anything other than film, particularly w/ B&W.

Looking forward to the next...

very interesting, Gary.  Just wondering whether you edited the scanned file at all or whether this is straight from the scanner...
