dkCambridgeshire Posted May 31, 2013 Share #1 Posted May 31, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just been looking for an Elpro D E69 supplementary close-up lens for use with recently acquired Digilux 2 camera. I am aware they are very scarce and expensive. There is one listed by a UK dealer but £350 is a bit too expensive and would not be a cost effective proposition. Thus going the poor man's route and have opted for: 69mm to 67mm step down ring ... £10 Marumi 67mm Achromatic +5 c/u lens ... £76.54 Marumi 67mm Achromatic +3 c/u lens ... £76.54 I have not seen any reviews of same when used with a Digilux 2 so will post some results when experiments are complete. Reviews of the Marumi c/u achromats when used with other cameras are favourable. Best wishes dunk
Advertisement Posted May 31, 2013 Posted May 31, 2013 Hi dkCambridgeshire, Take a look here Elpro D E69 c/u lens for Digilux 2 - possible alternative. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
farnz Posted June 1, 2013 Share #2 Posted June 1, 2013 dunk, As you may already know, there's also the DMW-LC69, which was produced for the D2's sister camera the Panasonic LC1. If you can find one then it should be significantly cheaper than the Elpro-D and while well respected is outperformed by the Elpro-D. Pete.

Yes I'm aware of the DMW-LC69 which is still listed at $139.99 by some dealers - but I recall reading that it is a single element c/u lens - whereas the Marumi offerings are two element achromats and thus better corrected optically. dkCambridgeshire Posted June 3, 2013 Author Share #4 Posted June 3, 2013 Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! The c/u lenses arrived this morning but still await the 69mm to 67mm step down ring. However, when holding the lenses in place and focusing they seem to work fine. Looking forward to trying them properly as soon as the adaptor arrives when will ascertain exact magnifications possible. The lenses are substantial and look a bit awkward when 'stacked' ... but so do regular Elpro lenses 'stacked' on my X1 which I use with good results. The instruction leaflet is a bit of a 'let down' as it describes the achromats as 'Digital High Grade Filters' and 'Achromat Macro Filters are the highest grade ancillary filters on the market today'. One would think that the manufacturer or whoever wrote the instructions would realise that they are lenses and not filters. dkCambridgeshire Posted June 3, 2013 Author Share #5 Posted June 3, 2013 The step down ring arrived at noon today so tried a couple of Q&Ds just to see what the Marumi c/u lenses might be capable of - ahead of a more scientific test planned later this week. Using a page from a Leica warranty booklet as a subject: The first picture was taken at closest focus at longest focal length using camera's macro focus setting without any supplementary c/u lenses. The subject was approx. 23cm from the front of the lens. The second picture was taken at a distance of 10cm from front of the lens using the 5 diopter Marumi lens ... and the third picture was taken using the 5 diopter and 3 diopter c/u lenses stacked together at a distance of 7cm from the front of the lens. These are uncropped from original JPEGS. I have not calculated the actual magnifications yet as was a very Q&D exercise ... later this week I'll try different subject matter on a copy stand and thus obtain more accurate data from which actual magnifications on the sensor can be calculated. However, so far seems the c/u lenses are worth using and they have given reasonable results. Welcome, dear visitor! ho_co Posted June 3, 2013 Share #6 Posted June 3, 2013 Looks good, dunk! Until your post I wasn't aware of the Marumi close-up achromats. Thanks for the info and the follow-up!
dkCambridgeshire Posted June 3, 2013 Author Share #7 Posted June 3, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) The approximate magnifications attained today can be calculated as follows: The 2/3" size sensor width = 8.8mm Using 5 diopter Marumi c/u lens: Subject width at closest focus distance = 56mm Thus magnification on sensor = 8.8/56 = 0.16 mag ... approx 1/6 life size Using combined 5 diopter + 3 diopter Marumi c/u lenses: Subject width at closest focus = 43mm Thus magnification on sensor = 8.8/43 = 0.204 mag ... approx 1/5 life size. Magnification appears to be much larger because the resultant photos are enlargements of the relatively small 8.8mm x 6.6mm sensor which has a 3.93 crop factor. Above magnification figures are approximate and will be recalculated when more accurate measurements are taken during planned camera on copy stand experiment. mikeleng Posted June 4, 2013 Share #8 Posted June 4, 2013 I've tried alternatives before I bought my Elpro D, my opinion is they don't come close . Regards Mike Welcome, dear visitor! Please wait until some pictorial results are available Thank you. dunk

carlosecpf Posted June 6, 2013 Share #11 Posted June 6, 2013 Go for the Lumix DMW-LC69. I had both the Lumix and the Elpro and the difference in IQ, if any, is negligible. However, the difference in price is not. If you search the forum for my user name and Elpro, you will find a thread I started with image samples comparing both macro adapters. Download the pictures and take your conclusions. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
