dsapkota Posted May 30, 2013 Share #1 Â Posted May 30, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Dear All, Â I thought I can use Leica R lenses with any latest Canon EOS bodies as I have done with 1D III and earlier model with EOS adapter in past. Â I tried to do it today with my Canon 5D III but pity I get message like - Upgrade Buffer, Error, Your Lens has dirt, needs cleaning etc and the camera does not fire. I tried with several R lenses but same story. Â Any idea about it? Thanking you all in advance. It was tripping a switch at about 8 o'clock on the Canon mount. When this switch is tripped the camera expects a Canon lens with contacts. But once you modify the adapter so it doesn't trip the switch the camera shoots as if there is no lens there.  More here...  Manual lenses with EOS cameras  Scroll down to "Camera locks up with the manual focus lens installed"  I can post a pic of the mod if that helps. sc_rufctr Posted May 30, 2013 Share #5 Â Posted May 30, 2013 You don't unlock the lens. Leave it locked to the adapter. Instead unlock the adapter on the Canon body and turn it and the lens about 10% anti clock wise as you look at the front of the camera. Â What this does is disengage the micro switch in the lens mount I mentioned in my earlier post. Â If this works you need to trim your adapter were it engages the switch. Â Hope that helps. I do have another adapter without Focus confim chip but not with me  I'm concerned that you're using an adapter with a focus confirmation chip. Other people here have had bad experiences with these. One person stated the chip actually damaged the electronics in his camera.  I would never use one on my camera. I use a Canon Ec focus screen and it has old school split screen focus. Works perfectly!  FWIW: The German made Novoflex adapter does not have a chip and that's considered one of the best made.  Do yo have micro screw drivers with you? Can you remove the chip easily? grandetech Posted May 31, 2013 Share #7 Â Posted May 31, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) its not about chip, its about whether you got a right one, we Hong Kong people buy mostly the China made adapter with chip installed at around USD40 each, it works perfectly fine with 5D3, not to mention other cameras. For reasons unknown to me, one adapter need the camera body to set aperture value 1.4, and the other need 2.8 . With it set, the lens/body combo works fine. At one time, I came across another adapter which works well on other Canon models, but once fitted to my 5DIII, error messages come up. Haven't had a single problem since.  Thanks so much for sharing your experience, which is horrifying! Further question, did the mother boards get burned once you put on the adapter and switch on the machine, or did it happen after using it for sometimes?
