Guest WPalank Posted April 3, 2007 Share #1 Posted April 3, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Shot from Fort Point (underneath the southern most span of the Golden Gate Bridge). The moon is between the TransAmerica Pyramid Building (pointy thing to the left) and the Palace of Fine Arts (golden dome to right towards foreground). Thanks for stopping in. Photoskeptic Posted April 3, 2007 Share #2 Posted April 3, 2007 Great shot, William. What shutter speed and f-stop, please? And while you're at it, ISO?
ejcaliguri@comcast.net Posted April 3, 2007 Share #3 Posted April 3, 2007 Great exposure! Love the low moon - SF is a beautiful city. Same question as Photoskeptic - settings. Any thoughts on bracketing and then combining in photoshop for both a detailed moon and well exposed sky-line? Would that have been possible under the conditions? I must say again - very nice work! stuny Posted April 3, 2007 Share #4 Posted April 3, 2007 William - Terrific shot at just the right moment to place the moon between the buildings and low in the sky to make it appear bigger. I also like that there was just enough light to make the sky and water a deep blue.
jmr Posted April 3, 2007 Share #5 Posted April 3, 2007 William, there's a seductive beauty to the shot - thanks.

Guest WPalank Posted April 3, 2007 Share #7 Posted April 3, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Thank you John, Ed, Stuart and John for your comments. I checked the EXIF and the exposure on this one was 3 seconds at ISO 160. I set it for Auto White Balance because I never know what to set it for in this sort of shot (Tungsten because of the lights, Daylight because there was a hint, Cloudy......) Aperture was probably 5.6 or 8 focussed for infinity. It was taken approximately 40 minutes after official sunset. Ed, I did kind of manual bracket and wasn't as happy as I stopped down for two reasons. Ambient light was dropping (duhhh) and that moon was moving man! So some of my shots stopped down (and therefore longer exposures) had the moon appearing more eliptical than the shot here. In this one, the moon was very round. I had a feeling if I increased the ISO I might be dealing with a bit of noise as the exposure was a little tricky. On location, the moon looked great as it was bisected by the whisp of a cloud (above it in this shot), but unfortunately with the long exposure, it turned the moon into a giant soft-box.
