rockford-photography Posted April 3, 2007 Share #1 Posted April 3, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi this is the first test shot I have done with my leica digilux 2 late yesterday afternoon, it was a bit flat as there was a misty haze on the sea. I was using iso 100. PP on the image was levels, a provia action to boost color slightly, I sharpened the lightness channel in lab mode using , amount 267% radius 2 threshold 1. after saving i re sized the image to about 800 wide then lab mode again but sharpening only 60%, a bit of contrast using 5 points on the contrast slider and I saved the image. hope you like it. not sure how much to push sharpening be interested to hear from others. looking at a few other test shots in decent light and conditions, eg outside my door with sun through branches, out of camera image was very good. thanks for looking ...best wishes...paul

jmr Posted April 3, 2007 Share #2 Posted April 3, 2007 Paul, nice clear shot - welcome to the forum. The Digilux 2 has a sharp lens, so I find it only needs a little help from time to time in post.
stuny Posted April 3, 2007 Share #3 Posted April 3, 2007 Paul - Welcome to the Forum, and congratulations on your D2. The D2 is a wonderful camera that people can't appreciate fully until they've used it a bit to find out how intuitive it is to use, and how good the results are, even in jpg. Your results are lovely for the composition, depth, color and light. The mistiness masking the horizon adds to the depth and mood. Regarding sharpening, I do it purely by eye. rockford-photography Posted April 3, 2007 Author Share #4 Posted April 3, 2007 Thanks so much folks, so glad you like the pic, I was only sorry I did not have more of a chance to get some use out of it but you know what its like when you are finding your feet with a new cam. After taking this shot I spent a lot of time trying to figure out why I couldnt take a series of 5 auto bracketed shots, I found out that 5 shots is most likely not available in high res mode also that the self timer cannot be used in auto bracketing either which is a shame but not a tragedy. its amazing how most of the controls you need fall to hand on this beauty, I do not find the viewfinder too much of a hinderance either, its ok for composing if need be, manual white balance was very easy too. thanks so much for your input, best wishes...paul
spylaw4 Posted April 3, 2007 Share #5 Posted April 3, 2007 Welcome Paul - and a nice opening shot, thanks. Take a look at the D2-fest thread in the digital forum to see what can be done with this amazing camera. Personally I find that most of the time it can be trusted on fully auto, when it frequently needs no post-adustment. For quick action it is excellent on top quality jpeg with manual focus, and of course if you want/need to bracket.
