lcamerax1 Posted May 9, 2013 Share #1 Posted May 9, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I got it off ebay, it says it has leica 1 year warranty. I'm happy with the camera but I found there are 2 scratches on the lens. I took some picture demonstrating them: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/dymowxtmeik27b8/J5y75ZHGCx/X1 I'm wondering: 1. can I safely repair them? 2. if not, is it covered by the warranty? Overral this is an excellent camera, I really like it!!! I have attached a picture I just took today: Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted May 9, 2013 Posted May 9, 2013 Hi lcamerax1, Take a look here I got a refurbished x1 but.... I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted May 9, 2013 Share #2 Posted May 9, 2013 This can only be repaired by replacing the front lens element, which is expensive. Basically it will not influence image quality, although it might increase flare minimally. However, it would irritate me enough to dislike using he camera. It is not acceptable on a refurb imo. I would return it for a refund. This kind of thing is not covered by the guaranty, a factory guaranty is not an insurance. It should be covered by buyer protection, though
earleygallery Posted May 9, 2013 Share #3 Posted May 9, 2013 As Jaap says, it is unlikely to affect images, but if the seller didn't state that the lens was damaged they have been dishonest with you. Perhaps if you paid a bargain price it's worth keeping the camera, but if you paid the average s/h price then I'd request to return it for a refund. If you paid by paypal you should be protected by their scheme if the seller doesn't co-operate. Unfortunately it seems some people use eBay to pass off damaged goods in this way. JDFlood Posted June 1, 2013 Share #4 Posted June 1, 2013 I agree with above. It will probably have minimal impact, but would drive me crazy, and unless stated in the description is un ethical. I would not accept. But probably no covered in warrantee, would not look like this coming from refurbishment, must have been done by some owner... Or dishonest seller.
