My D-Lux 4 battery always stuck in my camera and i have to get it out with tweezers. The battery doesn't charge properly either and loses the charge after about 1 hour. For this reason i'm assuming it's a battery problem and not a charger/Camera problem.

My girfriend just gave me this camera as a gift as she doesn't use it anymore and it's too much of a hassle with the batteries. but I understand she has had it quite some time and uses the original batteries. The batteries also seem quite fat as though they have expanded but i honestly don't have a clue.

Hmmm, I really don't know. Unlikely both batteries are bad, but could happen.

On the other hand maybe there is a fault with the charger or the camera. Perhaps you can charge a battery and take it to a dealer to ask them to check it?

When I put a battery in to charge a green light appears for about 5 or 10 minutes and then goes off. I'm guessing it just stops charging after that time. It's pretty confusing. I'm just worried in case it's a camera problem as it would probably be a bit awkward getting repairs over her ein China

I wonder if the battteries have swollen some as a result of deterioration. That could make them difficult to get out of the cvamera, and make it a bit more difficult than normal to put in the camera.

When you first put the battery in there should be quite an obvious spring loaded feel as you press it down into position and when pushed a bit more firmly it clicks as the retaining clip locks into place . I've used an after market charger and battery without any issues at all . I've had issues with the actual labels on batteries causing a problem but not on the D Lux. Good luck with fixing it, it's a great and very capable little camera.

I will buy a new charger as it shouldn't be too expensive but I'm pretty sure the battery is swolen or is the wrong size as it's not just a slightly tight fit. I have to literally shove it in and then it doesnt even move when I click to eject it. Have to pull it out with tweezers..... Thanks for all the help by the way, I didn't actually expect any responses. I have owned cheap compact cameras before but this is my first 'real' camera and i'm having lots of fun with it. It just sucks that I can only use it for an hour and then I have to spend an hour getting the battery out again.

Hello,

Swollen Li-Ion batteries are a known problem with all kinds of devices, incl. MacBookPros, for instance. It's a deterioration of the cells, just as holding a diminished charge. For laptops, the problem was usually solved by changing the battery, not the charger or related electronics. So I would first try getting one or two aftermarket batteries and check with those. As said, the D-Lux 4 is a great compact camera. Even with the new batteries, try to stay below iso 200, there it's at its best ;)

Cheers,

Alexander
