DavidM9 Posted May 1, 2013 Share #1 Posted May 1, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I am now the proud owner of the M240 and have enjoyed my first day's shooting. Just downloaded some 200 casual shots of people and greenery and so far so good - no real chance to analyse yet, but impressed with overall colour, contrast and image quality. I experimented with the various image settings: Sharpness, Saturation, Contrast, Film Mode. Have been trying to find an online blog on these settings but found nothing. Does anyone have any advice or experience with these settings? Thanks David
Advertisement Posted May 1, 2013 Posted May 1, 2013 Hi DavidM9, Take a look here New M240. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted May 1, 2013 Share #2 Posted May 1, 2013 Maybe it would be wise to move to raw shooting? It would give you more control over the results. I'm not surprised you did not find anything on the Internet. The vast majority of users of cameras at this level will basically shoot raw and only use JPG in specific situations. DavidM9 Posted May 1, 2013 Author Share #3 Posted May 1, 2013 I should have said. I always shoot in RAW, and the different settings for Sharpness, Saturation, Contrast, Film Mode are available under RAW
theno23 Posted May 1, 2013 Share #4 Posted May 1, 2013 Those settings don't do anything if you shoot RAW, just set markers in the file (if anything), which most RAW converters will ignore anyway. Edit to add: they might affect the preview image? But that's tiny. If you use B&W mode then the preview is B&W, and I think the liveview image is as well, which can be useful. krooj Posted May 1, 2013 Share #5 Posted May 1, 2013 How long ago did you place your order?
Postelnikov Posted May 1, 2013 Share #6 Posted May 1, 2013 I should have said. I always shoot in RAW, and the different settings for Sharpness, Saturation, Contrast, Film Mode are available under RAW No, they not. It is just when you shoot RAW+JPEG. That is good to shoot like that, as you may see some results just after ther shot. But you must not use this jpegs, use RAWs, work with them and you will get much more from your camera. I could not see any change with saturation in the evf. Indoors I set sharpness and contrast to medium high but outdoors (bright sun) the standard (default setting) appeared best. I don't know if they affected the rear screen in live view mode. There are many controls added to accommodate the live view/evf and it takes time to evaluate what might be best for each individual/situation. Congratulations on your new camera. DavidM9 Posted May 2, 2013 Author Share #8 Posted May 2, 2013 Thank you everyone. I have now checked the raw files and they all look alike, regardless of image setting (sharpness, contrast, saturation). But it does look different on the evf. On a separate note, has anyone been able to buy an R adaptor for the M240?

Telling the truth most here still don't know how much should they wait for their new m cameras, have no hopes to R adapter. You are of the lucky one:) Congratulations with your new camera! digitalfx Posted May 2, 2013 Share #10 Posted May 2, 2013 There are plenty of third party R adapters available. Im using one from Amazon that cost $40, and it works just fine. http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/other/275160-m-photos-r-lenses-open-all.html#post2384511
