innerimager Posted April 1, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted April 1, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I picked up this most interesting and fun to shoot lens yesterday. A 2 element piece of simplicity with a push/pull focus used with a visoflex. It's most satisfying to shoot, quite light, has a shoulder support as well. And...yes you can get sharp images without AF let alone IS/VR on the M8 with a equivalent 520mm view. This was iso 640, 1/2000, 6.8. best....Peter

wstotler Posted April 2, 2007 Share #6 Â Posted April 2, 2007 Nice shots! Really cool. Question: Do you (or does anyone else) have a photo or two of somebody when he or she is using the rig to get shots like these? I've seen images of the rig itself--but not of the rig in use. Thanks --Will

max0442 Posted April 3, 2007 Share #10 Â Posted April 3, 2007 Has anyone experience with using a TXBOO extension tube (in place of the Viso) & a Telyt on any M body?
Artichoke Posted April 3, 2007 Share #11 Â Posted April 3, 2007 Has anyone experience with using a TXBOO extension tube (in place of the Viso) & a Telyt on any M body? I would imagine it would be near impossible to focus without a Viso the Viso is a bit of a Rube Goldberg solution and I am amazed at the images Peter and Jan got with theirs ...wonderful clarity I am curious as to which adapter is needed for the 400 Telyt and also for the 200 Telyt my local shop has a 200 Telyt in stock at a good price & I just got a Viso III with bellows & the 135 Tele Elmar I am tempted to expand my Viso experience ...my results so far with macros have been very encouraging
gogopix Posted April 3, 2007 Share #12 Â Posted April 3, 2007 Has anyone experience with using a TXBOO extension tube (in place of the Viso) & a Telyt on any M body? Â Can only guess at focus then. Or just focus at infinity. I considered this, but better just use an extension tube, cheaper regards

Can get shot! esp if aim at a plane near airport.  But looks like you just hold naturally (loosely speaking, of course :-)  Wonderful shot. jaapv Posted April 3, 2007 Share #14  Posted April 3, 2007 jaap- do you still have it?Jan- Fabulous shots! It really is a great handling lens, you show what it can really do. best....Peter  No; I have the Noflexar 400/5.6 on Pigriff C It is basically the same lens, but better corrected and faster, as it is a three-element achromat, as opposed to the Leitz 2-element. Built by Leica as well.
gravastar Posted April 3, 2007 Share #15 Â Posted April 3, 2007 I believe the 400/6.8 has significant curvature of field. I can certainly see that with shots taken with an R9 (same lens head as the M version). I was told Leica designed it this way to give an apparent increased depth of field as objects in the bottom of the field tend to be closer, I would take that with a marketing pinch of salt though. Â Â Bob.

I was told Leica designed it this way to give an apparent increased depth of field as objects in the bottom of the field tend to be closer, I would take that with a marketing pinch of salt though. Â Â Bob. It is just the excuse. The original two-element Leica 400/5.6 REALLY had curvature of field, so Leica went to 6.8 to get it within bounds. As it is it is fine for the application but don't start shooting newspapers or brick walls with it. The original 5.6 design was upgraded for Novoflex by adding a third kitted element, which was even more effective than the Leica edition, but made the lens heavier (not too much though) and a whole lot more expensive. Novoflex had their lens heads produced by Leica up to the mid-nineties, when production stopped, as popular perception made AF lenses preferable to the Novoflex squeeze-focus mount and the Leica slide-mount. There are Leica heads on Novoflex mounts around as well.It is still more exact than most AF systems though- and as quick. Both the Leica and the Novoflex lenses are still very good perfomers, especially with the edges cut off by the M8.

Leicabeimeister has one and Cameraexpress has several, to my knowledge, but they are all over.
