The in-version updates, e.g., LR4.3 or LR4.4, have generally provided important, but more modest, tweaks. I would expect LR 5 to carry on the tradition. Of course a more cynical view is that Adobe is ready to make some money again off existing customers. (I never mind the small added costs, however, as the benefits have so far proven to be substantial, far in excess of the minor upgrade fees.) wlaidlaw Posted April 16, 2013 Share #5 Posted April 16, 2013 Although I am not a big fan of LR in general (I just can't get my head round the way it works, having been a Capture One user for around 8 years), I have to admit the healing brush is impressive on LR5. I took some shots with the M240 last week to compare the 280/4.8 Telyt's versions 2 and 3, with the Muscelli Visoflex replacement adapter. These were of my neighbours' house about 100 metres away. I can use the healing brush to repair the broken clay tiles on their roof just like new. I bet they wish I could do it like that for real. The standard M240 LR profile is not great but I made a few profiles for different lighting conditions a couple of weeks ago, using X-Rite's profile maker and a CC24 Gretag Macbeth chart. I will be using these until such time as Phase One improve their M240 profile, which is pretty horrible at the moment. Making ICC profiles for Capture One is nothing like as easy as making DCP profiles for LR and ACR. You need an expensive bit of software and a colorimeter. Franco I have been sending P1 CC24 chart images made with the M240, with a copy of the correct values matrix. The numbers for the reds in particular are a country mile out and the yellows are not good either. I hope we will get an update soon. The P1 guys are generally pretty good. Given that they must have professional ICC software, I was a little surprised that their initial effort was so far out. They may have felt to get some sort of profile out quickly was more important than to get a better profile out with a few weeks delay. If you take a photo with bright reds or oranges, they are a long way out. To give you an example on the CC24 chart the orange in position 7 (one down, far left) should read R214 G126 B44. On a north light DNG with WB set at 6450ºK the actual patch is showing as R207 G59 B18 on C1 preview. Even if I correct the exposure to set the red at 214, the greens and blues are going to be way down. Lightroom figures for the same patch R207 G160 B61 with LR's original M240 profile. With my M240 Profile the figures are R203 G153 B55. Blues and greens are a bit strong but it's far nearer than C1. Wilson Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

I like the LR5 improvements I had to discover by accident how to use the "advanced healing brush"... Nothing looks different in the interface, you use the same spot-removal tool as before. This is the reason I have pensioned off my Dual G5 PowerMac to my wife's office as a bill and letter printer and am looking at upgrading my late 2006 iMac. I am trying to find a new previous version 21.5 iMac, as the absence of a CD/DVD internal drive on the latest ones is absurd. I use the CD/DVD drive on my existing iMac nearly every day. I don't see that the plug in would not work in LR5, as it has done in earlier versions. There is an online tutorial somewhere in the Digimarc Blog. I think there was a problem a few years ago with the plug in being 32 bits only and PS CS6 and LR4 being 64 bit only but as I am using Digimarc in PSCS6, that seems to be past history.
