Question?

Make it sense to start with this?, both camera's are 4 years on the market.

Is the output not more import then the difference in the 2 camera's

Just my 2 cents

You forgot a few:
  • D2 can be operated while tethered to a computer and LC1 cannot
  • LC1 was shipped with remote control, D2 was not

no i didnt forget them, i just thought of them as external to the camera. On the same basis, i felt pretty 'iffy' about the lens cap too.

i think its interesting that the bodies really are quite different pressings

Yes the output is the same, I had both camera's and did a lot of the same pictures and post it, a very, very, long time ago, nobody could tell witch one was the D2 or the LC1.

lc1 after three years of relatively careless use in myanmar, sudan, uganda, etc..:

- all aperture markings were gone in two months (just rubbed off)

- most of the front plastic (including the grip) is gone

- long gave up shooting anything but iso 100 @ high jpeg

- still decent battery (cumbersome charger)

- no buffer was the biggest drag

- sweet spots somewhere between f4 and f5.6 and between 50-70mm

due to m8, lc1 is now shamefully (and somewhat understandably) collecting dust. might still take it to mongolia as second camera this summer to mongolia.
