allamande Posted April 10, 2013 Share #1 Posted April 10, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) I know, how many more of these images from this spot can we take? I just couldn't resist as in all the years I've been there, this is my first rainbow seen stretched over the valley. We drove up to the Park during a ferocious hail storm and just as we arrived at Tunnel View, the storm was pulling out, and this view greeted us! The landmarks L to R: El Capitan, Half Dome, Cathedral Rocks, and Bridalveil Fall. Hope you like. M9/35 'cron ASPH. LR4. Welcome, dear visitor! Advertisement Posted April 10, 2013 Posted April 10, 2013 Hi allamande, Take a look here after the storm Yosemite Valley at Tunnel View. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
algrove Posted April 10, 2013 Share #2 Posted April 10, 2013 Just love that shot. I plan on being there late May to early June. Never been there so we are very excited to see this shot. My wife wanted to know about bear activity in late Spring time. Since I do not know the area which way are you looking (N, S), please? Looks like a 28 will work there too. pauledell Posted April 10, 2013 Share #3 Posted April 10, 2013 Ece, How can anyone see too many pictures of this view? This is beautiful in every way. I am used to seeing this in b&w but your colors are spectacular. Oh yes, the rainbow over the far peak is like a bowel of Neapolitan Ice Cream on a hot day. Northwest Wanderer Posted April 10, 2013 Share #12 Posted April 10, 2013 Nice shot. A note to all: The National Parks Service has a network of webcams that cover most of the parks. allamande Posted April 11, 2013 Author Share #13 Posted April 11, 2013 algrove, Paul, sore80, Dee, Kaethe, Marcus, K.-H., Stuart, Bill, Tony, Bill S., and everyone who gave this a thumbs up! Your generous support is greatly appreciated, thank you! I am delighted to share this view one more time and receive such great feedback. Thank you very much. Algrove, this is facing East at Tunnel View, coming in from the south on Route 41 (Wawona Road), the road turns East toward the Valley, and you pass through a Tunnel and then you hit this spot. May should be a wonderful time as most of the park should be open and accessible by then (many parts are closed in winter). It is likely that there will be bear activity then, but with proper storage of food and following the guidelines that the park gives you, all should be well. The most important thing is not to leave anything (food, lotion, sunscreen, nothing that has a smell) in the car. There are plenty of bear proof storage bins provided at every trail head, parking lot, etc. And yes, your 28mm should be great. I had my 35 and 21mm lenses and that's all I used. Enjoy your trip! wattsy Posted April 12, 2013 Share #15 Posted April 12, 2013 My wife just saw the photo and wants us to book a trip in June/July or October this year . I've been in October and it was wonderfully quiet but do bear in mind that the waterfalls have dried up by then.

Suits me but I'll have to be careful how much time I spend photographing or there will be divorce :rolleyes:/ Mid June would be perfect! Then you can visit all of the park and drive through it to get to the East Sierra as well. There is a web site that has info when which roads are open to the public. Remember, there is typically a lot of snow in those mountains.
allamande Posted April 12, 2013 Author Share #17 Posted April 12, 2013 Mark, June is a great time but try to go before the school is out. October too, with great Fall color, is a unique time. And that's probably the best time for the Eastern Sierra with all the sagebrush in bloom. Ian has a point. Some of the smaller falls will be much diminished (or dried up) but larger ones like Vernal, Nevada, and Yosemite Falls will still have plenty going. Your wife should have a camera too Ece

MarkP Posted April 13, 2013 Share #19 Posted April 13, 2013 Thanks to everyone for your very enthusiastic and helpful advice. I've only been there once before, in September/October 1985! Beautiful sunny days and very cold nights. It was very dry and unfortunately little flow through all of the falls as some of you have mentioned. I spent four days in the valley and a similar number in the Sierras which were indeed beautiful. I'll have to get out my old B&W negs but I recall that none were a patch on Ece's photo! Perhaps we'll plan for mid-year if we can miss the US school holidays and if that doesn't work then October. The Autumn forest colours vs the Summer waterfalls - tough decision! Your wife should have a camera too Might be a good time for her to start. If Yosemite isn't an inspiration to do so then nothing will be.
MarkP Posted April 13, 2013 Share #20 Posted April 13, 2013 I just found the negatives of 8 rolls of 32 ASA Panatomic-X (FX 5060) and Plus-X Pan I shot in Yosemite and the Sierras in October 1985 when I was a Medical student heading to New York for an elective I'm not sure I ever printed these up I'm in for a busy week scanning & printing I now need to find the Kodachrome 25 & 64 slides I shot there.
